The small, lightweight Point Zero Two Bucket Purifier Kit from Sawyer Products (model SP191) can filter up to 170 gallons of clean water per day. It's an ideal component to add to your emergency preparedness kit for use during disasters such as floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes.
Simply install the Sawyer Point Zero Two Bucket Purifier to a plastic bucket (not included) to create a large-volume gravity purification system that can be used to filter up to 170 gallons per day to an incredibly clean 0.02 micron standard. Use the included faucet adaptor to drink straight from the tap during boil alerts or in other emergencies when safe drinking water is compromised.
The Sawyer Point Zero Two Bucket Purifier Kit is a great choice for relief agencies or support groups traveling to areas where the water source is compromised or in question, or when you need ultra-pure particle and bacteria filtration. It's also great for use for hiking, backpacking, ultralight backpacking, camping, paddling, and group camping excursions. Chemicals and electricity are not required.
This package includes the Sawyer Point Zero Two 0.02 Micron Absolute Inline Water Purifier, adapter, hose, hole cutter, filter cleaner, filter hanger, and detailed instruction book. The Sawyer Point Zero Two Bucket Purifier Kit is backed by a manufacturer's limited lifetime warranty. Since 1984, Sawyer Products has offered the best, most technologically advanced solutions for protection against sun, bugs, water, and injuries -- everything from first aid kits developed for wilderness to point-of-use water filters that filter contaminated water to levels cleaner than U.S. bottled water.

One other important point is that this is a FILTER, not a purifier. It uses mechanical action - small pores - to filter out physical particles. I recommend adding a GAC filter before the Sawyer filter if you have a concern. You can also add it after, but then you will contaminate your Sawyer filter with chemicals.
Yes, you have to gauge your water pressure. At full water pressure in most locations, it will pop off. At lesser pressure, though, it works great, and we always got a good flow going, which for some months provided us with safe filtered water for our family.
The problem is this: In our experience, the plastic on the filter is very susceptible to cracking. Why is this a problem specifically with the faucet attachment? Well, when you filter the water into a jug, you're not going to want to stand there and watch it fill, because, though it's much faster than our Katadyn gravity system, it's still pretty slow. We would sometimes step away from the setup and just let it filter for a few minutes. Unfortunately, our water pressure sometimes changes; people on our property turn the well pump on without realizing we have the filter attached, and under the full pressure of our pump, the faucet attachment pops off right off and drops to the ground. If it happens to hit the concrete floor about two feet below, it may crack the plastic, as it apparently did to ours. Although the plastic is cheaply constructed and liable to crack, this is not considered a manufacturer's defect by Sawyer, and it will not be replaced under warranty.
Background: We purchased this unit through Amazon and used it in our home in Chad, Africa where we are based in an urban setting doing development work. It served our family of six well for the eight months that we used it intermittently (we alternated between the use of our Katadyn filter and this one). We have no complaints about the quality of the water or anything else, but if we get another unit, we will have to find a better way to set it up so that the risk of cracking is minimized.
Pros: is an amazing filter that really does clean water to the virus level, the capacity is staggering as in 2 years we were only able to pass about 5,000 gallons through this thing
Cons: due to the size of the pores in the filter it clogs quickly, our water was very silty so to relieve this problem I staged my filtration: 1st was a ceramic filter into this into an activated carbon filter to (hopefully) remove the metalo-organic compounds our lovely neighbors loved to dump in the village water supply. The only other issue I had was finding suitable buckets to use but that was more a product of the country I was living in rather than a flaw of this product.
Verdict: compared to other filters this does a much better job and once I found the trick of shaking it while back flushing it was a cinch to clean. Flow rate is not spectacular but it's a .02 micron pore! 5 gallons in a bucket would easily be filtered overnight.
The package arrived in good time, and was packaged fine so no issues there, however the back flush syringe was not included in the box even though the associated paper work said it was part of the contents. The kit also included 2 hanger hooks that are too small for the filter and look better suited to the Point One filter.
Finally, and a small cosmetic point I know, but the Sawyer sticker around the filter was way off square and in conjunction with the missing/incorrect parts just gave the impression that the kit was rushed and not up to the standard I expect from Sawyer.
I have no doubt that the product will perform well - I like Sawyer products in general - but a bit disappointed this time around.
*EDIT* I contacted Sawyer via email and advised them of the missing back flush syringe. I received an email back saying they'd send out a replacement (to New Zealand!)- no questions, no drama. Pleased to confirm it arrived today and am happy to raise rating from 3 stars to 4 stars (would otherwise have been 5 stars if right first time). Good customer service in putting it right.
