We love Saxon Math programs and have been using them for years, but Saxon Geometry needs a caution attached. There are an unacceptable number of ERRORS in the answer key. There are so many errors that, when I grade my daughter's work, I am more inclined to believe her answer than the answer key. Upon working the questioned problems ourselves (between two professionals with very high math backgrounds), we find the Saxon answer key to be wrong. This was annoying at first, but as time goes on and more and more errors are found, it has become a downright stumbling block to our daughter's ability to learn and not question herself. However, at least she gets to learn one important lesson with Saxon Geometry: sometimes the "experts" are just plain wrong, and this is one good lesson for a child to grasp in life. Saxon needs to put out a revision for this book and FAST. I could recommend this as a great Geometry book, but the huge number of errors drop its rating to one star. One further piece of information: I tried contacting Saxon early on as I discovered errors to alert them to the situation, and their customer service attitude was downright disgusting. They just didn't seem to care. So be warned, if you buy this book be prepared to question the given answers.

Let me say right up front that we LOVE Saxon Math. We have six boys in it: 1 in 5th, 1 in 6th, 2 in 8th, and 2 in 11th. Saxon has been a fantastic curriculum, and we promote it every possible chance we get. Until now.

Don't purchase this course. Our 11th graders--who have successfully finished Algebra I & II with flying colors and have completed Apologia Biology, Chemistry, and are currently succeeding in Apologia Physics--are spending HOURS trying to figure this out. The DIVE DVD is a complete waste of time and money; the instructor does nothing more than read the book. Well, we can do that. In the DIVE DVDs with the other courses, they actually work the problems and explain what is going on. The boys were independent with their other maths from Saxon. Not this one. My wife and I do not have time to spend hours helping with the course when we are homeschooling 8 children; if you are in the same boat, stay away from Saxon geometry.

For the first time in years, we are changing to a new curriculum. We will continue to use Saxon for their other maths, but not geometry. Saxon needs a major overhaul to the helps for this course.

I am a huge fan of Saxon math and have used the curriculum successfully homeschooling my own children. This book, however, is not up to the standard I expect of Saxon textbooks. First, it is FULL of errors. I am astounded that this book and its corresponding solution manual and test booklet went to press without a careful editing. Second, many of the problems in the homework set are "applications" that really stretch the concepts being presented. I prefer a more straightforward approach. I used this book in a classroom setting for the first time this year, and even my brightest students became frustrated with the unnecessarily convoluted homework problems and the frequent errors in the text and solution manual. The book does present important concepts clearly in the Saxon tradition, but without straightforward homework problems and correct solutions, many students will have trouble mastering skills, particularly in a homeschool setting. My suggestion: wait for the second edition or check out Harold Jacob's geometry instead.

A good book and a good buy for homeschool geometry. This set has enough information to self-teach a complete course in geometry, including how to write proofs. It is much better than other public school textbooks we used for geometry previous years, because it gives better explanations actually enabling you to figure out how to write proofs. It seems better than the popular homeschool series with DVDs which didn't explain how to write proofs well, either.

It contains lots of integrated review problems so it helps strengthen a weak student who may have forgotten some algebra. The solutions manual shows completely worked-out problems and proofs, so it's a big help. The test schedule is convenient (every 5 lessons) and tests are included in the kit. If you photocopy the tests, you can use the whole kit over for multiple students. The text also contains construction labs (compass and straightedge exercises) so it pretty much covers everything. It contains a LOT of emphasis on logic, which I didn't expect, but that's apparently part of the latest standards of learning for geometry.

Caveats: The first edition has numerous errors in the solutions manual. The pages of the textbook are thin so they wrinkle easily, like when you lay your arm across the page.

We used Saxon Math quite successfully every year in our homeschooling from the time my high school daughter was in Kindergarten. We completed their Algebra 1 and 2 before attempting this Saxon Geometry. My daughter, albeit challenged, was able to do the work of Alg 1 and 2 as long as she ACTUALLY WATCHED the Saxon Teacher CDs on EVERY lesson and did all the work right along with them. I administered her tests separately for Alg 1 and 2 and she definitely mastered the concepts. When it came to Saxon Geometry, however, it was a total fail. The Saxon Teacher CDs that are available to buy separately with the curriculum didn't help at all. My daughter had a very hard time grasping the concepts and we finally abandoned the program altogether in favor of AOP Lifepac Geometry. She did somewhat better, but still wasn't "getting" it. However, we went to a third program, Teaching Textbooks Geometry, which was a win!!! She GOT it!!!
