Any lover of romance, whatever the shade, will find these satisfying and refreshing as a dip (skinny dip) in a cool clear "loch". The reader will rediscover the joy of the classic hero, his beauty, his animal magnetism cloaked in civility...The delicious build of passion for both hero and heroine.
In Lecia Cornwall's HOW A LASS WED A HIGHLANDER, the reader is delighted and enchanted by the fairy tale elements and the actual influence of the "Fairies" in the love match for the reluctant Laird Alexander and his direction-challenged love, Cait.
In Anna Harrington's A MATCH MADE IN HEATHER, it is a sprig of heather carried by the stable boy, Garrick which reminds him of his lost love, Arabel that inspires him through the most difficult circumstances including war. He returns an English Lord believing he was betrayed by Arabel all those years ago. The sense of betrayal is mutual as is their renewed attraction. It is a story of new beginnings for both Garrick and Arabel surrounded by the fragrance of heather.
In May McGoldrick's A MIDSUMMER WEDDING, we are presented with the hardships and joys of the simple life of yore. It is a delightful tale of attempted subterfuge with identities and miscommunications all told through some harrowing challenges that our lovers face. The Laird, Alexander and Elizabeth betrothed for years seem ill-suited for each other from the start but all misconceptions and apprehensions dissolve in this challenge of nature they faced together to stay alive.
Lastly, but no less a delight, in Sabrina York's THE SCOT SAYS I DO, Duncan, a lowly stable boy and the daughter of the Laird, Catherine both shared a mutual attraction when they were younger. Duncan was most honorable when he refused to touch Catherine because she was too young at the time. Catherine's father, the Laird, had him sent away because how besotted his daughter was over this stable boy. This story involves other suitors vying for the hand of "Cat" and some lovely steamy love scenes between the bankrupt "wee Cat" and the now monied Duncan. One line stuck with me after the read and I will leave it up to the future reader to figure out its meaning in context with the story, “ Always a lovely surprise for a lass.” - Esmerelda
This is a wonderful collection that will make you fall in love with Historical Romances set in Scotland and/ or rediscover the delight of the Scottish brogue whispered in your ear. One click and you "canna" go wrong!
I loved both the H and h from the beginning and felt their connection from the start. I enjoyed how the author worked the fable of the Princess and the Pea. The story pulled me in from the first page to the end. Which was another surprise for me because I usually don't care for retelling of fables, but this was clever.
Our main couple are very caring people and when they do come together - one time outside of marriage, it was with passion and mildly described.
There is suspense, romance that builds slowly, great secondary character's and a unique story line that was very enjoyable. Most importantly HEA!!
BOOK 2 - 3.5 STARS - A MATCH MADE IN HEATHER by Anna Harrington:
I must confess I dislike misunderstanding or revenge stories with a passion, Especially when they last the whole story, which this did.
I never felt a connection to our H/h mainly because they were rehashing old hurts. So when they did have sex (not lovemaking), that is what it was to me sex, outside of marriage and mildly described.
Of course we do get our HEA finally, no romance in this story for me.
BOOK 3 - 5 STARS - A MIDSUMMER WEDDING by May McGoldrick
I have read 14 books by this team and most are always 4-5 star reviews by me.
This was no exception. Talk about a romance story, oh how I loved how this built slowly. The dialogue was spot on, how they conveyed their feelings seemed so real.
There is 1 passionate lovemaking, barely outside of marriage. Other than the very beginning and the very end, this is a story comprised of our H/h, and how they discovered their love.
We get an HEA too, some suspenseful moments and a wonderful story line.
BOOK 4 - 4 STARS - THE SCOT SAYS I DO by Sabrina York: It took me awhile to like the h because she was denying her feelings. The H was a joy and knew what he wanted, was patient and was rewarded.
I did enjoy the ending and the secondary character's. We do get HEA, some romance, lovemaking that was passionate and somewhat descriptive, but the actual act (1) was after marriage and one time of foreplay described. There was also some humor which added to the story.
I wanted more details how our H made his money in such a short time, besides saying he worked hard.
My favorites of this bundle were book 1 by Ms Cornwall and book 3 by May Mcgoldrick. These are all quick reads, some spice in each, HEA, and worth the price. (ljb)
