Editorial Reviews

Review

“Offers a wide range of healing activities, compassionate reflection, and practical help for honoring and memorializing the life of your pet.”
Dr. Marty Becker, resident veterinarian on ABC’s Good Morning America

“Allen and Linda Anderson’s book gives us permission to acknowledge the intense bond we have with our animal companions and the deep loss we can experience after their deaths. It provides helpful stories, exercises, and memorial services respecting a variety of beliefs. Infused with kindness, their work offers us help, hope, and a rainbow during the storm. I have learned from it and will celebrate and share it.”
— The Reverend Mary Piper, Episcopal priest and chaplain, cofounder of the pet loss support program at Heart of the Valley Humane Society in Bozeman, Montana

“This masterful and beautiful book is rich with wisdom, inspiration, and sound advice....With sensitivity and compassion as well as practical information, the Andersons gently and deftly guide us through the complex labyrinth of emotions associated with grief. I highly recommend this thoughtful, illuminating, and comforting book.”
Diane Pomerance, PhD, creator and director of the Pet Grief Counseling Program, SPCA of Texas, and author of When Your Pet Dies

I recently lost my beloved dog of 15 years. I was heartbroken. I decided to seek some help and found this book. It truly is comforting. The way it is written and the references are excellent. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who has lost a dear pet. My heart goes out to you, as I know exactly what you are going thru. Only pet owners who love their pets as family know what I am talking about.

Allen and Linda Anderson never fail to deliver a wonderfully well-written book. This book is no exception. It contains a lot of useful information about dealing with the sadness and grief that anyone inevitably feels upon the loss of a pet. I think the best part of the book is that it offers many different ways to honor your pet's memory and celebrate the life of your beloved pet regardless of your religious or spiritual preferences.

In June we lost our dog Brownie to cancer. I was having a difficult time dealing with my grief, so I decidied to buy this book after looking into it and a few others. It was extremely helpful. There were inspirational stories, ways to deal with your grief, and meditations that help you to mourn and honor the life of your precious animal friend(s). I liked this book because it not only had great stories and advice, it also had a great reference section in case you wanted to work outside of the book.
The book is very sensitive to the pet owner's needs, no matter how your pet left you. I recommend this book to anyone dealing with the loss of a pet. I also went to the book's website and signed the guestbook, the next day I received a personal e-mail from the authors. They are very thoughtful people.

This is a great book. First of all I loved the Rainbow Bridge Poem. This book really touched me in a way that I didn't think would be able to in a time of terrible grief. It helped me through each stage of my grieving process. I would definitely recommend this to a friend or loved one.

I bought this book before my 10 year old cat, Koda died from oral squamous cell carcinoma. The stories gave me comfort in just knowing that none of us are alone in how we all grieve for our beloved family members. I found comfort in this book and at times they made me cry, because I could truly feel their pain in what each person had to endure and how they coped. The Andersons have put out other books that I have enjoyed reading. A must read, you won't regret this book.
