About the Author
Tonya Calvert enjoys writing children's stories, short stories and creating watercolor art. She finds inspiration all around her, especially on nature walks and at her favorite destination, the Florida Gulf Coast. She has a BS from Columbus State University and a JD from Atlanta's John Marshall Law School. She paused her legal career to homeschool her children and has never looked back. She's been married to her high school sweetheart for 24 years. They live a blessed life in the Deep South with their 3 boys.
Alejandro Echavez is a Freelance Illustrator, Painter and Animator specializing in children's illustrations. He currently resides in Long Island NY, but spent his formative years in Bogota, Colombia, where he first showed an interest in art at the very young age of 6. More than an interest, it was a natural talent that his family nurtured and developed. A kid at heart, his artwork is often colorful and playful in theme. He is not scared of bright colors, which he uses to create movement and vibrancy in his work. Alejandro is currently working on children's books and continues creating the vivid canvases and artwork he is known for.

Whether for children who enjoy the ocean or for those who like birds, SAYLOR ON THE SEASHORE is a fun spin on beach reading. Both informative and inspiring, it opens up discussions about the dangers of the world and the importance of listening to the wisdom of others. In addition, it provides a conversational bridge to further learn about geography: What is a panhandle? It also gently brings to light the realities of the circle of life. Librarians, educators, and parents will enjoy its educational value, and children will connect with Saylor as his friends help him escape a dangerous situation.
SAYLOR ON THE SEASHORE is a great reading experience for summer trips to the beach. Parents and children can point out seagulls and herons and have conversations about fishing while enjoying their vacation, which will make it a trip and a book they’ll not likely forget.
Saylor listens attentively, and tries to remember the safety rules Old Mr. Pelican teaches. But when Saylor’s tummy tells him he’s hungry, Old Mr. Pelican’s words fly away, just like the seabirds on the Panhandle, where Saylor lives.
He finds himself in a scary predicament. He learns the hard way that to be a happy seagull, first, he must stay safe. As a former Pre-K Director, I'd recommend this book to both parents and child care teachers as an introduction to following safety rules.
