And all through the house,
Nothing was stirring, not even a mouse.
The fire it crackled, a comforting sound
I grabbed a hot chocolate, and a novella I'd found.
Excitingly romantic, a handsome young hound,
Ordered to marry, he circled around,
A navel lieutenant, a younger son,
Suddenly found he was the one.
Viscount in waiting he was to be,
He stood his ground, wanting to flee.
He plotted a near treacherous course,
Down a path he was protestingly forced.
The answer he puzzled and wrestled and fought,
To do not what he wanted but just what he aught.
By magic and chance he found his true start
A wren by perception, an eagle at heart
All browns and greys, a shy little dove,
Hidden from light, a dark little glove
Transformed to splendour, when gifted by love
His spinster bride, Anne Lesley by name
Ian Worth's lady, really anything but tame.
Assisted by Pinky, valet and friend
Sailed into safe harbour right at the end.
A wondrous read, a sunshine, a ray,
Of romance and pleasure that lightened my day.
(apologies to Clement Clarke Moore, 'The Night Before Christmas.' 1822.
Ok, the original was going around in my head and I couldn't help myself)

Ian Worth is the second son of a Viscount, who has lived nearly his entire life sailing the seas. While home for a short leave, his older brother is injured, putting the succession in danger. Ian’s father wants him to marry immediately, and although Ian might be willing to do so, he is set on marrying a woman he chooses but there may not be time.
He decides to settle on the very barest of requirements, but it seems he may get much more than he bargained for.
This is not an ugly duckling/swan situation but more a beauty is more than skin deep kind of thing.
It’s a sweet and beautifully told story, full of all the wonders of the season, even in summer.
If you’re looking for something simple and sweet, this is the book for you.
It all starts with a tyrant of a father telling his son (Ian) he has to marry to produce an heir because his brother has been injured, the son then lies and says he is already married and then it is a race against time to find a bride. In a chance meeting in a pub Ian meets an old ship mate and tells him his tale and what type of wife he is looking for, and just by chance his ship mates daughter fits the bill. The story then goes on to their meeting and how you can not read a book by its cover, as he assumes Anne is plain and he ges onto find out she is everything he wants and needs. This is a very enjoyable historical novel, well worth a read.

Whole bunch of sweetness. Ian and Anne were both perfect for each other. His dad needs to take a long walk off a very short pier.
