Ian Worth is the second son of a Viscount, who has lived nearly his entire life sailing the seas. While home for a short leave, his older brother is injured, putting the succession in danger. Ian’s father wants him to marry immediately, and although Ian might be willing to do so, he is set on marrying a woman he chooses but there may not be time.
He decides to settle on the very barest of requirements, but it seems he may get much more than he bargained for.
This is not an ugly duckling/swan situation but more a beauty is more than skin deep kind of thing.
It’s a sweet and beautifully told story, full of all the wonders of the season, even in summer.
If you’re looking for something simple and sweet, this is the book for you.
I really enjoyed this story. It is a novella, but it reads like a full length novel.
Ian needs a wife - like yesterday. While in the pub drowning his sorrows, he sees an old friend. He finds out his friend has a daughter that fills all Ian's requirements for a wife and invites them to his home.
Anne is shy, quiet and plain. Initially, Ian is very disappointed and Anne is none too thrilled herself.
These two seem like polar opposites - yet they are exactly what the other needs to be whole.
I loved watching Ian discover the real Anne and making an about face of his first impression of her. I was really very sweet.
Throw in a matchmaking batman, an overly chatty mother, a domineering father, a snowstorm and some very steamy kisses and you have a great novella.
I would definitely recommend this book - it is very loosely connected to the other books in the series, so it could easily be read as a stand alone.
However, the development of the lust at first encounter develops well nd leaves you with a sense of wonder.
Ian, the young lad from "Almost a Scandal" has grown into a dashing naval officer who captures your heart from the start. Would have liked the epilogue to have shown a bit more of the happily ever after.
Looking forward to reading her next book, "After the Scandal."

Whole bunch of sweetness. Ian and Anne were both perfect for each other. His dad needs to take a long walk off a very short pier.
