Editorial Reviews

Review

"Scapegoat is a taut, suspenseful history. The opening chapters prompt heart-pounding excitement as Corsetti describes the dive from the perspective of both the crew and the passengers. The book is enthralling throughout, even as it shifts from the near crash to the more mundane hearings and investigations that followed." —Foreword Reviews

“The author sifted through a staggering depth of research and documentation about TWA Flight 841's high-altitude upset and aftermath and then boiled it all down into an intriguing investigative narrative.” —Mark L Berry, author, 13,760 feet: My Personal Hole in the Sky

“This is the kind of case the Board has never had to deal with—a head-on collision between the credibility of a flight crew versus the airworthiness of the aircraft.” —Leslie Dean Kampschror, National Transportation Safety Board Investigator-in-Charge

"Fasten your seatbelt for an incredible story of injustice." -Karlene Petitt, international airline pilot, safety consultant, and best selling author

From the Author

At the heart of this story is a mystery. What caused a Boeing 727 to roll over and dive some 39,000 feet? The answer to that mystery isn't solved until nearly eight years after the incident. It takes the efforts of a retired aeronautical engineer and a lone pilot investigator, neither of whom took part in the original investigation, to finally piece together the evidence pointing to a probable cause not considered by the original investigators. Along the way, there is a twenty-million-dollar libel suit filed by the captain against Boeing and the NTSB, a civil trial where the entire investigation is reexamined in front of a jury, and a conflict between the credibility of a flight crew against the integrity of the most popular aircraft in the world.
