5 Bamboo girl stars!

Such a beautiful, honest, heartwarming and inspirational story! WOW. Words cannot express how moving this epic story is.

This book has been on my radar since it came recommended by Amy Harmon. Now, months later, I was desperate for something new, longing for a story that would rock me to the core. And boy did it rock me!

I finished this in the wee hours of the morning, tears streaming down my face. I don't get easily emotional when I'm reading, and ironically enough, the last book that had me sobbing and bawling like a baby was a book by the author who recommended Scar of the Bamboo Leaf. And now, hours after I finished it, I think of the story again while tempting to write a review, and I'm getting all teary again. Not many books do this to me. That, to me, is the solid proof of a good story. One that makes you feel everything.

The moment I finished it, I sent said author a message: "I just finished Scar of the Bamboo Leaf. So beautiful but my heart is broken..."

Scar of the Bamboo Leaf is a story that should not be missed. Not only is the story so heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time, also the writing is impeccable. It was obvious from the very first few pages that I'd finish it in a record time. And while I did wanted to slow down and inhale every word, I was eager to know what would come next and at the same time being afraid to turn the page. You literally feel that somehow, someway, something is going to happen... And then, when you think you can't take any more of the heartache or think you're not going to be able to swallow the lump in your throat that has been there since the very beginning, Sieni A.M. makes you ride that rollercoaster once more.

First of all. Congratulations Sieni on another amazing Novel.
My heading "Scarred for Life" in a very good way!
"Yes a Novel, it's only a novel"..I had to keep reminding myself this after I finished reading the story. I couldn't stop thinking about it. It felt raw, realistic, relatable, felt every emotion. It is well written that it makes you feel like you are right there with the characters. It makes me want to visit Samoa.
Some parts took me back to my childhood memories, like climbing up our water tank, and I had that one favorite tree where I would always climb up and felt like it was my own safe haven. I smiled when the Cook Islands was mentioned in the story because that is where I'm from.
Kiva is an admirable character. Just when you think she has endured everything that life has thrown her way...another wave comes crashing down on her..yet she is so strong physically and mentally, no matter what obstacles comes her way,.. through her love for art she always overcomes them. When I say I felt every emotion, I really did.. to the point where I felt like my heart broke with Kiva's. This is definitely a story that will stick with me for a very long time.
I didn't see that twist at the end coming, but it's not always about the "lovey dovey" happily ever afters that you would usually expect, which is why I absolutely love this story. It taught me to love, respect and appreciate life!! I didn't want to give away too much..but can't help it!
Thank you Sieni for yet another amazing story! I honestly absolutely loved it! Looking forward to your next work!- Tania Maea

Wow. Powerful is the first word that comes to mind, followed by heartwrenching. Scar of the Bamboo Leaf is a coming of age love story that transcends genre. It’s young adult, but it spans more than just the teen years. The story is flawlessly crafted, skillfully told, and evokes all the beauty of one of Kiva’s paintings. Vivid imagery and emotional depth thread through the novel bringing the story powerfully to life. Sieni A.M. has done her research, which is apparent throughout the novel. The setting and characters are so genuine, no you never question their authenticity.

Oh my gosh, where to begin. On the surface, it’s a tale of two people destined to be together, but their deep emotional and physical wounds prevent them from seeing what the rest of us know. But deeper, it’s the story of belonging, of understanding, self-discovery, acceptance, and forgiveness. The book is a tapestry of words, woven together to create a stunning picture when seen from a distance, but up close, you realize every thread is a work of art itself. The author uses descriptive prose to tell the story, the way a cinematographer uses cameras and lighting to create something more than just a movie.

Kiva is a fifteen-year old girl with a pronounced limp due to one leg being shorter than the other. She’s been abandoned by her mother and raised by her aunt and uncle. Ryler is a troubled teen sent to reform school in Samoa where he meets Kiva. The two are from different worlds, but have much in common, and form an unlikely friendship. When Ryler graduates and leaves without saying goodbye, Kiva is left broken hearted. The two meet up again years later and realize what the reader knows, that they belong together. But the story is so much more than that.
