The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is a personal bias, I suppose. I am Christian, and believe the Bible. If an author is going to use Biblical bases for world building as this author did, I like them to be as accurate as they can, or pick another basis. This novel seems to be placing Gabriel in the role of the devil, when anyone with any basic Sunday School knowlegde knows that is incorrect. Since she assigns him a female gender, I wonder if the legend of Lilith may have served better. The final reason I will not be reading this series is because I just don't do demons. I believe demons are fallen angels, evil, and not human. Most authors in this type series can't help but try to humanize then make a "good" guy out of them in the course of the narrative.
Moderate reading of about 300-325 pages. No overtly expressed sexual scenes.I'd rate it PG-13 for some adult ideas and the violence.
Mina just wanted to have a night of fun: a one night stand with a handsome man. Unfortunately, she woke up sicker than a dog. After a couple of days wondering around thinking she has the flu, she finds out she's been turned into a vampire. Now she's caught in a war between the good Draculus and the evil Nosferata. Luca, son of Matteo head of the local Nosferata, was tired of being second in command and following the evil whispers in his head decided to unleash something far worse than evil vampires... indiscriminate gargoyles.
My only complaint about this book is that it seems to end suddenly. I think it needs one more chapter about what's special about her to allow her the advanced skills she has and what she plans to do now that the gargoyles appear to gone.. or are they? We don't even know that for sure.
C. Rene Astle has taken a dive into the dark realm of the underworld and it just what we needed. Nothing overtly sexual in the book, and a strong female lead wading her way through the path she has been thrust upon. I can't wait to see what happens with Mina and with Luca moving forward. This series has the potential to be amazing.
Wow!!! This book was awesome. It's different than what I usually read, as there is no romance, (or I should say sex). This is so what I grew up believing what vampires were like. Mina doesn't want to be forced into staying in sanctuary just because she was accidentally turned. But she's one tough cookie. I love the way the vampires are broken down to three different categories. I so can't wait to read the next story. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up
