I am a trainer and coach and have used lots of different shoes including top of the line Nike, Adidas, etc. I am always picking these up for use in my studio.
On another note: I truly respect Scarpa as a company: the quality that they build into each and every product shows in every detail. There's a lot of stuff produced in Asia right now that is more expensive and falls apart in 8 months. If you are particular and like solid, functional design, you will like Scarpa's products and these shoes.
Anyway, as of today I don't have any major complaints about these shoes except for the stiffness. It's a mid-weight ascent shoe with plenty of scrambling capabilities. The suede looks high end and seems to mesh pretty well throughout the shoe. In my opinion it's got great design and can be worn for casual nights out. The toe cap is firm and protective but minimal in appearance. The Vibram sole is thick and sticky, even on wet concrete, and I'm expecting many years of use before I destroy them. Insole comfort is decent but you may need inserts if you have anything but a flat arch. Size was about normal for what I wear, but almost everyone else reviewing them has said that they're a little narrow. The full lace system works well but sucks when you have to change them out, no biggie though.Read more ›
The only caveat about this boot is that the sizes are a bit idiosyncratic and you would do better to find a local shop to try it on instead of ordering from the internet. Scarpa makes their products in different factories in Eastern Europe and they all come out a little different. Try it on first and remember it should be a bit close fitting in front.
They get used on the street, on approaches, on hikes, mountain biking... they've seen four continents and countless miles on and off trail. They've even been to a wedding (not recommended haha)!
No other shoe I've ever used has ever lasted this long with this much use. Given the amount of wear since I got them I should have at least a couple more years to go before I need to replace them.
Zen's are absolutely great shoes. Since got them the first time I stopped looking for any other similar purpose shoes.

Very stiff. Insoles are hard and will require some time to break in. Uncomfortable to wear over and extended time.
Well built, looks good.
The fit wasn't really as expected. Normally I am an 11 so I thought 11.3 might be a little bit large. I was wrong. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Justin Cross
I bought these to replace some Lowas that were similar. These have a stiff shank so that the toe area doesn't bend easily which is good for me since I've had toe surgery on both... Read morePublished 1 month ago by Parshal
I very much like the shoes, albeit they do run a bit on the small side. They are getting broken in quickly but we're comfortable from the start, just a bit stiffer than I'm used... Read morePublished 1 month ago by Bill
