Editorial Reviews

From Caserta and Naples in Southern Italy we travel to Sicily, an island with a remarkably varied history, held by Phoenicians and Carthaginians before becoming part of Roman territory, later to be occupied by Ostrogoths, recaptured by the Byzantines, ruled by Saracens, and held by Normans, Germans, French and Spanish. Only in the mid-nineteenth century was Sicily drawn into the unified country of Italy. The music is by Mozart, his Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K.467, written in Vienna in March 1785, and the second of his two piano concertos in a minor key, the Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor, K.491, composed in Vienna in the following year. Mozart had made three extended Italian tours between 1771 and 1773, and his father Leopold had hoped that his family might be able to settle there, if a position could be found for his son. In this, however, they were unsuccessful, and the third Italian tour was Mozart's last.

I have collected as many 'Nature - Travel - Music" DVDs (150) and have placed them in two 3-ring binders. (A Space-Saver, together with any associated material). These DVDs mostly contain Classical Music & NO DIALOGUE. I Have traveled to most of the locations and it is nice to visual memories of our pasts. And violently resentful of being 'Talked-Down to" by some idiotic & insincere narrator.
As I have stated in the past; these DVDs are "Sort-of-a-Poor Mans Travelogue"..
The Music is mostly plated by Minor European orchestras and is clearly stated on the label & in the DVD.

This IS NOT a Rick Steve's like video. Music is excellent (Mozart), but the scenery shown is a ripoff.
Examples of what was shown, repeated scenes of a horse and buggy, the driver, the horse, the horse's ass, paintings, family at a rocky beach, close up on young girl at beach, then the young boy, ambulance driving in steets of Naples (too many traffic scenes), mummified remains in museum, banyan (?) trees and tree roots, puppet show (come on, a puppet show?), more traffic, .
Good stuff included artwork, mosaics, and sculptures in Naples museum, ocean views of Sicily, building and facades, churches, open air shopping and markets, some panoramic shots of countryside,
I expected more flyby or driveby scenery/countryside, city shots to give a flavor of the surroundings (rural and city). I consider this a rather amateurish production not worth the price.

I liked the video imagery of the island of Sicily, Southern Italy and environs. Although I didn't recognize many of the composers and their compositions, just hearing the music and seeing these places was good enough for me.

My main problem with this travel documentary is that you don't know what you are seeing since it's only music and scenes.
