I read the good reviews for this product but not enough of the bad reviews. Bought this TV because of the price and decent reviews. Beware!!!!! TV was okay until I turned it on this morning and there was sound but no picture. THEN I researched the bad reviews! (Duh.)

Lots and lots of reviews mention just this problem -- sound but no picture. AND there was not one mention of good Sceptre customer service!! Evidently I am SOL. Will do my best to deal with this but won't be buying a Sceptre TV again.

I purchased this TV from Amazon a little over a month ago. Due to problems with our satellite dish company, it took us that long to finally get everything hooked up. As soon as we did, we discovered 1) the remote control did not work and 2) there were horizontal black lines across the screen. I called technical support 4 times and heard nothing back. I then emailed them and still heard nothing back. I finally called their customer support line and surprise of all surprises, I actually got to talk to a person! I explained what was going on so she put me on hold to go talk to technical support. 20 minutes later she came back on the line and said that no one was available in technical support but that it sounded like TV was defective (really?!). She said that since I was out of the Amazon warranty period, my only option was to go online and complete some online forms then ship the TV back to California (I live in Ohio). If they were able to fix the problem, I would get the TV back in approximately 3 weeks, if not, they would replace the TV. What a nightmare! Fortunately Amazon was willing to take all this into consideration and let me return the TV to them even though I was outside the 30 day warranty (barely). Shame on Sceptre 1) for selling inferior products and 2) for having such incredibly poor customer/technical support. Kudos to Amazon for being so understanding and being willing to work with me.

It is August 2011 and I have had the Sceptre for 3 years now. When I bought it, it was a little higher in price ($399) but a great deal for those days. I have never had a single problem with the unit. The picture is great and it has a lot of hookups. I have one hdmi hooked to my dvd/vcr player. I have one hdmi hooked to my xbox. I have my ps2 hooked into one of the red yellow white. It has a couple. It's a great setup for the price. This is one deal I always look back at as a good one. I would recommend it. I would buy another one. You also get a high quality screw driver with it (just saying). Just look at the unit specs and make sure it has the hookups you want.

So I'm seeing a lot of reviews from people who think this TV should perform like a $1000 unit. "I can't find a color setting that I like?" - please. Go buy a high-end TV if that's what you want and quit griping about your $200 flat screen.

Here's the real-deal: TV came well packaged and in good condition. I actually hooked it up within a few days - instead of leaving it in the yard for a month like some of the other reviewers - it works fine. Picture looks good and all of the features (including the remote) work with zero issues.

The audio situation (speakers): some reviewers act like this thing should give you stereo-quality sound, it doesn't. Don't expect it. I have a home audio system that I use when I want good sound. If you put this TV in a large room - you're going to need supplemental sound. Here's my gripe about the speakers: there is no really "low" volume setting. Nit-picky I know, but the space between "mute" and "1" is a little broad. So, 4 out of 5. If you need a cheap TV - this one works well.

This TV is living proof that most LCD's are made the same. Some people insist on well-known, name-brand TV's only, fearing they're going to get some sub-standard piece of junk. I read an article not log ago that the parts for all of these TV's pretty much come from the same manufacturer's with a few exceptions. As time went by, I slowly replaced our older Sony's with these lesser-known brands and they work perfectly. Own 6 of these similar LCD's now and never had a problem. Shop by the price and you won't be let down.

I purchased a new Sceptre TV, but there is a big problem with it. I plugged in the TV cable and PS3, but the TV is not responding. Besides the turn on or off button, any other button is not working or responding. After I follow the user manual to plug in the cable and PS3, I press the SOURCE button, but there is no responding. I just bought this new one, but when I opened it and tried it, this problem appeared. And I contacted the tech-support and customer service, they never brought me to a human and did not reply my email. Terrible!!!!!!!

I've had it hooked up for a week. I have been noticing when you turn up the volume there is background noise. Its annoying. Picture is fine. Connections in the back are pretty flimsy. When connecting the component video and audio cables the jacks are flimsy and move quite a bit. The remote control has a very flimsy feel. Will check tech support and return if it doesn't get resolved.

Update- I called tech support at Sceptre and they suggested I try different cables from the AT&T U-verse receiver . I originally had component video and audio wires. I switched to an HDMI cable and the noise went away. Whatever the root cause was its resolved now. So overall the TV is doing fine now that i changed the connection to the U-verse receiver

Update- About 8 months old and still working fine. I only upped my star rating one star because even though the sound is background noise is resolved its becuase of a workaround and not a solution to the problem. Using the HDMI ports instead of the Component jacks isn't a fix. If a TV is going to have Component inputs they should work. These doen't without noise. The fact that the HDMI inputs worked is not a plus, its table stakes. They are supposed to work. So I upped my rating to 3 stars becuase of the valid comments I saw to my post. But the TV remains only OK. Picture is OK, pixilates a lot on sports or concert type images. It was challenging to find a code that worked using AT&Ts uverse remote to control the TV. The autosearch function for the code worked the best.
