Modi 2: Improve Any Computer’s Sound Modi 2 plugs into virtually any computer—Windows, Mac, popular Linux distros, Intel Chromebooks, as well as iPhones and iPads. Just plug in via USB and go with no drivers in Standard Mode, up to 24/96 output. Switch to Expert Mode for extended high-res capabilities to 24/192. This will require drivers for Windows, but for no other OS (hello, Microsoft!) The vast majority of the total production cost of Modi—chassis, boards, assembly, etc.—goes to US companies. Our board house is 20 minutes away from our office in Newhall. Our chassis guys are just over the hill in the Valley. 2-Year Warranty Modi is covered by a limited warranty that covers parts and labor for two years. That’s 2x the warranty of most of the products in this price range.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.

This little DAC is great. The quality and the sound is amazing. The only issue I have is there is nothing included in the box other than the DAC. I thought you would at least get a usb cable. The white LED for the power is also super intense and blinding.
This is my first DAC and the difference between this and my Creative SB Soundcard is fantastic. I wasn't expecting much of a difference but I was very wrong. Don't hesitate about purchasing this DAC. You will not be disappointed.
Don't ignore the reviews that say "no cables" - its not that there are no audio cables included, there are literally zero cables included - you cannot use it until you order a USB-A male to USB-B male (commonly called a printer cable). I totally understand not including RCA cables, since most folks buying this will have their own already and have various preferences for length and cable quality, but not including the critical power and data cable that the unit cannot be used without and only comes in one type seems like a strange omission, especially because these cables only cost a dollar or two. Minus one star for that, but otherwise this is the best bang for your buck DAC on the market in my eyes.
Modi 2 sounds way better than my old Creative Sound Blaster Z. I tested it with PC speakers, bookshelf speaks, studio monitors and several low to high end headphones. I have two Modi 2 for different PC and one of them is over 3 years and still working fine. PS. The LED on the front is too bright, and I hope it has a on / off switch.
I use it for my work computer, honestly after this point there are serious diminishing returns, a great little DAC that stands at the forefront of performance/price. I have a much fancier DAC at home to work with my STAX l700s, and while it is better, a side by side comparison really shows after the modi (especially given this is only $50!) you are only getting relatively marginal improvements to sound. So if you are on the fence about jumping into the world of DACs , give it a go!
Ultimately, I am happy. The sound quality is superior to the built in audio on my motherboard. Its extremely clean, zero hiss or any noise what so ever. The stereo image has widened. I can not believe this was only 50 bucks. I paid roughly 400$ for a DAC about a decade ago, died about a couple months ago, and researched all the Schiit available. Schiit Modi 2 is superior in every aspect to my old DAC. The build quality is top notch, rock solid. My next purchase will be the Vali 2, along with Loki. After being blown away by Schiit quality, I want a stack of Schiit for my hifi.
I am not an expert in sound, but at least I can notice that the sound is cleaner than the card of my motheboard, the modi2 I am using it with a magni 2 uber, for the price that is 60 dollars I do not know if it's worth it spend 60 dollars more in modi 3.
