2009 release from the German experimental Kraut rockers. This release documents the band before an audience of friends, fellow artists and fans from all over Europe at last year's Avant Garde Festival - held quite literally in co-founder Peron's back yard. A friendly audience yes, but one not easily impressed. Faust did not disappoint! From the spontaneous vocal improvisation during the soundcheck (preserved here as track one), through walkabout serenading of Peron's beloved pig with firework backing, painting and power tools amongst the crowd, to the blistering performance of the anthemic "Krautrock" this soon joined the list of legendary shows for this most legendary of bands. As a bonus, and continuing the theme of collaboration from last year's Disconnected and Fini! releases, the last track presents the finale of Nurse With Wound's festival set and features Jean-Herv Peron and Steven Stapleton dueting on 'Rock 'N' Roll Session'. Salamanda.

Another must-hear / should-have live Faust 2-CD release. Gig took place at the Avantgarde Festival over the course of two days - July 4 and 5, 2008 on Schiphorst, Germany. 'Schiphorst 2008' is basically a complete Faust concert - with fourteen songs from their vast catalog + an encore with Nurse With Wound (another of the event's bands who apparently played there) as they have Faust member vocalist Jean-Herve Peron guest on the wonderfully droning "Rock And Roll Session". As for the actual gig, I got the most out of "Es Ist Mir Kalt", the eight-minute "Two Painters Painting", "Shempal Buddha", "Giggy Smile", the stunning Faust staple "Krautrock" (a bit shorter than usual running at the seven-minute mark, yet still great to hear) and "Grand Cirque Par Temps Pluvieux" (actually, it's really It's A Rainy Day Sunshine Girl". Highly recommended. At least as good as 'Od Serca Do Duszy' (see my review).
