But this family is like my spirit animal. I swear to God. Lol they are so horrible and endearing. That you don't know whether to be disgusted by them love them or both. My favorite 2 characters are the mother and the son, and they really like the father too. But the mother and son are so deluded. They make the show funny. The actress that played the mother had to have based her character somewhat off of Janice Dickinson, that is all I see when I see her playing. Mrs. rose. Is this loud? Still attractive but drugged up has been actress that would any time she walks into the room, she should be the one everyone is looking at whether she's making a scene or she's the life of the room. Considering or not living the high life anymore when you watched the show even if you haven't seen the show you know that it's basically the Beverly Hill billies in reverse. I like the daughter, the daughter's character it is the only one that seemed to adapt well to the poor life. And seems to semi enjoy. Her new surroundings, along with her father or at least, seems to make the best of it. Though she's pretty much what I would have pegged her for right away, the spoiled, rich princess that's very promiscuous, loud party girl tie that maybe they could have wrote differently, I don't know, but I do find her in endearing on the show. The son who also is the sun to Eugene Levy actor Dan Levy is very funny, very vapid. The self of are just like the rest of the van away. If I haven't I. Caught on to it yet? They pretty much make him as gay. As possible is not a gay character, then. Somebody can call me out on my review, but my reviews, FYI, are usually in the top debris, most helpful and critical reviews on anything I've rated on Amazon. So back to what I was saying, they do make him very flamboyant than make him some observed they make him very stupid at times. That little things like being a bag boy slash cashier at a grocery store will pay 45 dollars an hour. I think even the average wealthy person knows you are not going to get paid 45 dollars an hour to be a bag boy at a supermarket. So I thought that part of the show was a little unrealistic. He is very funny. He does a good job at what he plays and I did like him in other movies, I've seen him in lake admission with Tina fey and I really like his stand up special.

Overall. I think season one is very funny I started. The earlier this afternoon probably took a 2 hour break here and there to you know, eat and do all their things, but I've only got 3 episodes left at 13 and I plan to finish them tonight before I go to bed so it is a very good show. Extremely funny worth the 5 star rating I'm just nit picky when it comes to reviews because people do not go in detail on anything and I think you can do a review go in detail on something without giving away any spoilers like I just did.

I just binge-watched season 1 of Schitt's Creek & loved every episode, laughing hysterically at times, but now I'm sad, for there is no season 2 available yet. It's extremely well written & the characters are just that - characters. I mean off the wall, in some cases. Especially David (Dan Levy), who really doesn't adjust very well to their forced poverty. Having lost their wealth, their home, & all of their possessions save one, the rundown town of Schitt's Creek, which Eugene Levy had bought as a joke, the Rose family finds themselves temporarily homeless &, having no choice, moves into adjoining rooms in the only motel in Schitt's Creek where they can live for free. They don't adjust well & think most of the people in town are weird, but that's a two-way street, & the simple townfolk think them the weird ones. One of the few normal people in town is the front desk clerk at the motel, but then her name is Stevie, so how normal is that? Chris Elliot is perfect as the mayor of Schitt's Creek. He's overweight, lazy, creepy, opinionated, doesn't quite get life, & is probably inbred for way too many generations of Schitts, who, in case you hadn't guessed it, founded the town named after themselves & put up a sign welcoming people to Schitt's Creek that depicts the founder snuggled up to his sister's derriere as she bends over to scoop water from the Creek. The reaction from Chris Elliot when Eugene Levy tells him it looks like they are having anal sex is true to Schitt form. He tells Eugene - I don't know about where you came from, but around here we don't boink our sister. Levy is extremely upset by the inappropriate billboard & Elliot promises to fix it. The next day there is another sign pointing at the billboard that says "Don't worry, it's his sister." You get the feeling Elliot's Schitt character is the long lost 4th brother to Larry, Daryl, & Daryl from the old Newhart Show. If you love comedies that make you laugh more than you wanted to, then THIS is a show for you. Thank you to the Levy's for their over the top performances & for bringing this show forth.

When this first aired, I gave the first episode a chance because of Eugene Levy. The pilot episode was really bad. It was full of cliches, dumb jokes and overacting and I began to have spiteful thoughts about Eugene Levy selling out his comedic integrity to the pie faced, cheetos eating chuckleheads who laugh at everything. I was thinking it must have been Christopher Guest who had all the talent..

But it gets better after the first episode. The rich family stops being wacky caricatures and they try to fit in. I especially liked the gay son and how they didn't make homosexuality front and center. Yeah, in the pilot episode he was one step below 'flaming', but in later episodes they toned him down and you looked at him like he was a real person. And even the 'townies' (do people really use that word?) were no longer portrayed as sister banging bumpkins, but they were realistic and funny. And for once, they didn't show every person in a rural area hating all homos! God I'm sick of that!

There's only about a dozen characters and they're all developed pretty intelligently (and with humanity!). To me, the people on Schitt's Creek are way more normal than the Douchebags and Models With Attitude you find with every other series. I know people who are just like Roland Schitt (Chris Elliot). Hell, I'm probably a lot like him! But was anyone else bothered by the full bearded Mutt? Dude had no chest hair, yet he had a full beard!

Family has to move to a small town in the middle of nowhere with just their clothes as the IRS seized their belongings, mansion, etc because their accountant was not paying their taxes. You see them try to adjust to the poor, humble locals and such a life. It is one of those dry even wry humor type of shows but still a little over the top like a SNL skit here and there. They are all a little eccentric but nothing too over the top. They kinda missed their mark with the one gay subplot and the one one drug subplot. I could say also on the "pansexual" subplot but since the late 70s when characters were written to say "There is nothing wrong with it" and "living together" was no longer TV taboo it comes with the TV territory--you just have to know better and to expect there to be casual sex, I guess. The one plot between Mutt and Alexis proves it--they say that all they had was sex. You would think after all these years people would stop abusing their bodies and wait. But hey . . . they aren't. Back to the show proper . . . tut they quickly reversed course to get back to what makes the show. Of course the one character's sexual androgyny by shear nature of being in the TV series is pushing envelopes but it is done in a not-so-in-your-face way. Depending upon how old you are this TV show is a mix between "Twin Peaks" and "Ally Macbeal".

Hilarious and intriguing. Would give five stars if second season were free on Prime. I was so hooked that I shelled out the $20 for the second season.

Fish-out-of-water scenario loses its trite ness quickly. It takes only a couple of episodes t become emotionally involved with most of the characters.

I've read so many good reviews regarding Stevie's character, but, imho, she's overplaying the sarcastic, sardonic, dark girl. That said, there's one scene with David where her two-second glance at him reveals her entire heart, so I began to identify with her much more.

Eugene Levy's son writes the show and plays David. I don't want to spoil anything, but I love the fluidity of his character.

Twyla, the suffering waitress/erstwhile girlfriend of Mutt is also Levy's offspring. I can't figure out if it's the writing or the acting that makes her innocuous character kind of annoying and more than uninteresting, Maybe season three will bring her character some spark.

Chris Elliott is a comedian of whom I've never been fond, but he hits it j. This show as the mayor of Schitt's Creek. The person who plays his wife, though, does, basically, an adequate job with the vanilla character she's been assigned.

Finally, the show is hilarious, but also successful in twanging the old heartstrings and masking the viewer really love this family. The season two finals made me happy as hell as I cried like the cliched baby.

I'm amazed how great acting and writing can make storytelling so engaging. The premise of the story is simple, the sets and backdrop are basic but the execution is fantastic. I haven't watched anything for a while with Eugene Levy and Catherine but always enjoyed them in the past. I thought it would be nice to see how they were 'getting along' when I stumbled across this series. It didn't take long to be reengaged with these veteran professionals. Their as good as ever if not better and the rest of the cast is just as talented. I've always enjoyed Chris Elliott and never thought movies have done him justice until this show. He seems to be incredibly comfortable in this role. As a matter of fact the whole cast seems to enjoy what they're doing. It seems like they have been given comedic space to develop and become their characters. It's very good casting.
I have never seen Annie Murphy or Daniel Levy perform before and they deliver great performances as the Rose children. Their self absorbed upbringing clashing with small town values is both comedic and believable as they struggle with their unfamiliar feelings of caring and vulnerability.
This is an easy to enjoy show that I always seem to devour more than one episode in a seating. It's pretty addictive not because you don't know what's going to happen but because the character development is so fun to watch. Great subtle humor between the townies and the Roses. The quality of the humor is so much more cerebral than network sitcoms, plus you don't have to suffer through laugh tracks. I know when things are funny thank you very much...
I hope the series continues. Great job everyone!

Love the crazy family dynamic. My opinion varies from "hate to love them" to " love to hate them". Both opinions are with great affection for the show! :) Love that it sometimes appears they are trying so hard not to burst out laughing. But those moments also work great with the dialogue and mannerisms of the specific scene. So you question: is this a part of the scene or are they trying really, really hard not to laugh (would kill to see the out-takes!). I don't know; that makes it more hilarious to me! For some time, I had been by-passing this show while browsing for other options. Then a colleague recommended it, and now I'm hooked. I'm a somewhat new Prime member (I'm a big Amazon shopper, and Prime was gifted to me for Christmas). In that respect, my only complaint is not about the show, but about access to the show. I quickly got through Season 1, and thought I could go on to Season 2. No! The episodes are shown, but they are shaded and not accessible yet. I'm told this is the norm and a frustration for other members. If the season isn't available for viewing, don't list it! But alas!!! It is available through my cable subscription on the POP network On-Demand. I feel comfortable in mentioning this since I don't think this harms Amazon's Prime memberships. I'm assuming people reading this review are already Prime members. And I don't think the show being on cable is going to make or break anyone's decision to subscribe to Prime.

The Canadian sitcom, Schitt's Creek, delivers many guffaws. Humor often comes from absurdity. Who could not interpret the town logo depicting a man pressing close to a woman bending over as anything but suggestive and x-rated? The residents do not see this possible interpretation. They only see two people welcoming visitors to town.
The plot of the story involves a family, once very rich, whose money was stolen leaving them penniless. Their only real asset beyond designer
clothes is the town of Schitt's Creek purchased by the father years ago as a joke.
The Rose parents and children are relegated to living in two rooms at the local old and very basic motel as they try to recapture their lives.
Patriarch Johnny Rose, played by Eugene Levy, projects expressions to match the situations he encounters with absolute accuracy. His range of facial communication seems limitless. Stage wife, Catherine O'Hara, adds her own aghast tones to the mix and emphasizes the shock and disbelief of their altered circumstances. However, the Rose family is stronger than they appear on initial encounter and each will find a niche in which to be reborn.
The series is humorous, often shocking, with a creative twist to the characters and dialogue.
