And I too am wondering at the earlier review that awarded only 3 stars because the reviewer thought this was a SecureKey product. I noticed no such reference, but I guess it could have been removed in the short period between, or maybe I just missed entirely...you never know...
I am very happy with it and it was great that I could have it within 24 hours with minimal cost as it was available on a prime basis. Very happy indeed.
I was concerned when I opened the box that the existing hole in my door wasn't big enough to accommodate the complete lock with mounting ring included. But in the instructions it said how to remove some of the mounting ring so it would fit my inch and a half diameter existing hole.
A pro would likely be able to swap an old lock for a new one in 5 minutes. It took me about an hour to do two doors, including removing the old locks. But I've got a great understanding of how it all fits together now. The locks I replaced where Schlage locks that were maybe 30 years old at least. These new ones are so much easier to install then if I had to put the old ones back in. I'm glad I bought new locks instead of just getting the old locks rekeyed.
Schlage makes a excellent quality lock and this is especially important on a pivotal piece like a deadbolt. It does most of the work of protecting the entryway. Plus when somebody sees the higher quality brand name on the lock, it'll tell them that you didn't cut corners on protecting your family and stuff.
I recently installed this same model on a friend's house and I noticed the how much beefier the bolt portion that slides into the frame. The mid level Kwikset I compared had a significantly lighter design and wasn't as durable. Another reason to go for a better quality lock is they're generally easier to install. They come with extra long screws to attach to the door frame which really helps provide security by itself.
Many years ago I remember trying to install a Defiant locking door knob on a bedroom door and it was so poorly made it jammed upon installing it and I had to pull the hinge pins just to get out of the room. I'm not a big follower of "you get what you pay for" (this would mean everything that's more expensive would be higher quality). I rather follow the credo instead of "buy quality, get quality".
