Now with all that being said, I took a star off because of the amount of research I had to do to program this lock. I had to do many google searches in order to get it to work. There seems to be some discontinuity between the people who designed/made the lock and the people who wrote the programming for it. There was no manual included. Google programming. Found a video. Looks good. This was helpful but it still took another try for me to get it right. I don't like that all the codes have to be the same length and you have to choose that length before setting it up, otherwise if you change the length, all your previous codes are deleted. Why can't you just enter a code? Who cares how long each code is. We all have our own secret numbers floating around in our heads. Let us use the ones we want. After this I went on to integrate it into the Alexa app which took a couple tries. I got frustrated when it didn't find it right away. I came back a little later and somehow it found it and integrated right into the app. After that, making the necessary adjustments was no problem. I'm also surprised that this lock doesn't work with the schlage app. Why not utilize your own app where all the features of this lock can be found in one convenient place? Probably because its Z-wave and not wifi. Only a minor issue. Integration went fine after Alexa found the lock.
Overall, the installation and integration process was pretty good except for a few details that I missed which made it more difficult. Find the installation videos and the manual on schlages site and everything will go fine. I have enjoyed using this lock so far and I would recommend it to others.
These self proclaimed smart home companies need to get their a$$e$ in gear though. I'm not impressed that I can change my light colors when unlocking my front door.
The negatives come when trying to lock/unlock this door with my Samsung SmartThings, or Alexa programming. I would say that it works maybe 40% of the time. Most times when I go into the app I get a message that it's not connected to the network, or if it is connected, when I actually try to use it, I get a network error and nothing happens. I specifically bought this lock for a basement door in my house that the kids continuously forget to lock. What better fix than to get a lock that works with Alexa and SmartThings to lock it from upstairs and set up an automation to lock at night. Great theory, just don't count on it with this lock. When it does work it's great, it's just not reliable enough to count on so we're manually checking it every night anyway.
This is eating batteries at the rate of one set each day and gives zero notice that the batteries are going.
Worse, I contacted Schlage via email about the problem and it's been days with no response.
I was about to buy 4 more of these, but now I'm looking at other brands.

Today I came back to my apartment after checking the mail to find the keypad wasn't working. It wasn't lighting up or beeping. I was amazingly fortunate that I had brought my keys with me (it was a fluke - I always relied on the keypad), because I didn't have my phone. Had I not brought my keys, I'm not sure what I would have done.
This device exists to let people in on the keypad, if it can't do that, then it just doesn't work. I don't trust it anymore to let me in by the keypad. If you're thinking of installing this somewhere people won't have keys (like an airbnb), I'd try something else.
I've emailed support to find out what can be done, and will update if I hear anything back.
This version connects to the Ring Alarm Base Station. That means we can control the lock from the ap. Also when we enter via our pin code it also disarms the alarm system (so we don't have to go type in another code when we get inside).
Additionally you lock this by tapping one button when you leave (and it arms the alarm for you if you set that up in the ap).
I would purchase this again.
Anyway, the lock installation and instructions were super helpful. I watched a YouTuber install the lock and give some tips so it made it easy to set up. Some tips for setting up:
-When putting in the deadbolt, use a screwdriver and turn the mechanism to see if it flows into the strke plate hole smoothly
-Use a level when screwing on the back plate (inside part of the door) to make sure its not crooked.
Now here is why I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5. The lock *is* compatible with Wink, to an extent. You can do everything advertised EXCEPT manage user codes with the Wink app. I spoke to Wink support and they are aware of the problem but said they have no time frame when this will be fixed. So if you own a rental or AirBnB, the Z-Wave plus model may not be for you. However you CAN manage user codes manually on the lock, but that defeats the purpose if you own a rental property. In my case, this is for my home so it does not matter.
My other issue is you cannot use Alexa to unlock the door, only lock it. However the loophole around this is using IFTTT with a Wink Shortcut to unlock the door. I don't recommend this as it could pose a safety risk as it uses anyone's voice.
Wink has their own issues and I don't know if the company will be around for another 2 years. My recommendation is get a Hubitat hub or make your own Home Assistant device.
Other than that this lock seems pretty sturdy and decent. We like the convenience of the keypad as we are outdoor enthusiasts and like to cycle and run without carrying our keys.
