The Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt with Camelot Trim in Satin Nickel makes daily life simpler and more convenient. Enter an access code on the touch screen to unlock the door instead of searching your pockets for keys. Pair the lock with your smartphone over Bluetooth. Share access with trusted friends and family with just a few taps in the Schlage Sense app – no more keeping track of spare keys. The Schlage Sense lock is easy to install yourself in minutes. It’s battery operated so there’s no hardwiring required, and the lock will still accept access codes if the power goes out at home. Typical battery life with average use is about one year, and the low battery indicator reminds you weeks in advance to replace it. You can update the lock wirelessly through the app as new features are released, which means you never have to buy a new lock to take advantage of the latest capabilities. Add the Schlage Sense Wi-Fi Adapter (sold separately) to your home Wi-Fi network to lock/unlock from anywhere on Android smartphones, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Or, if you have an iPad/Apple TV connected to your home Wi-Fi network, you can control the lock from your iPhone as part of your HomeKit-enabled smart home.

Next, is your door on a covered porch? No? Well, this unit contains no rubber seal, so if it gets wet, water will get behind the unit. Maybe use plumbers putty for a seal or form-a-gasket?
Next, if you notice on the Sense, the screen is light grey with white letters. Would the sun hit the touchpad? Yes? Well, you won't be able to read the numbers. Sun doesn't strike the numbers? Ok, well you still can't read the numbers. Why they chose grey/white is beyond me.
Next, is the inside area heated, for instance, your house, or is it unheated like a garage door? If it's unheated, the batteries won't last long in the winter.
Are you trying to use this with Alexa or Apple Homekit? You can't use both. If you are trying to pair with Alexa and it's not working, go into Homekit and disable/remove the Sense from it.
If you pass all of these, then the lock works great. I have it pair to Alexa and it opens and closes on demand. Note, however, you cannot unlock as an Alexa action, but you can close/lock it as an action. For instance, I have an action where I say "Alexa goodnight" and the lights in my garage turn off (wemo) and the Sense locks. To unlock the Sense with Alexa, Alexa will ask for a passcode.
Also, mine came with one key. I saw somewhere that someone said it didn't'? That makes no sense to me.
My husband spent the better part of an hour trying to install this. Instead of blindly following the directions, he tried to put it together outside the door first. It didn’t work. It seemed as if it were configured for a right-hand door when we have a left-hand door. I looked, too, and couldn’t figure it out either. The bolt would not turn in the direction we needed. My husband was ready to return it, and he gave up and went to Lowe’s.
Meanwhile, I called Schlage because I knew there had to be a solution. The representative was extremely helpful and told me all I had to do was actually plug it in and it will correct itself. She offered to stay on the line until I got it working. I explained the situation with my husband and said it would take too long since I’d have to take off the old lock again. She said, “Well, wouldn’t it be fun if you fixed it and were sitting at the table drinking coffee when he got home?”
So, I installed it quickly. It did correct itself once plugged in. I smugly sipped my coffee while my husband stewed.
Also, I checked the phone app for the lock and the reviews are concerning. The app frequently doesn't work and apparently you have to agree to allow Schlage to share your contact information, IP address, email address and other personal information with third parties. I thought that's OK, for support for the lock, but they can also share this information with third parties so they can market to you. A company that provides security systems giving out personal information for advertisers? Come on Schlage, pull it together.
We liked our older version of this lock so we bought one for our rental. We have now replaced the batteries three times and twice was before we actually rented the unit. We cannot afford the current tenant to be locked out of their house as a result of failing batteries so we are taking it off and putting in a standard deadbolt. Tired of getting calls from the tenant. I would not recommend this model
we liked our home version so much we purchased this one for our rental. It is an improvement over the earlier model because it has WiFi to lock or unlock. We had the earlier version for two years now without a problem and I expect this one to be the same.
