This was recommended to us by a tiler working a neighbor's house. We used it because another neighbor had had a lot of trouble with cracked tiles and we wanted to avoid that. It was easy to put down -- a lot easier than cement backer board -- and the tile went down on top of it with no problem. A warning: if you are doing the work yourself and plan to take your time, be aware that "the orange stuff" is not comfortable to walk on without shoes!

It can be a challenge to fill the deep waffles, trowel, and lay the tile (but filling the waffles and letting that dry can certainly make that easier!).

Matched up perfectly to all of the surrounding 3/4" hardwood flooring.

It was also a HECK of a lot easier to carry this 26lbs roll of underlayment vs. almost 500lbs for cement board. My back and aching muscles have to be worth **something**. :-)

I have completed several tile jobs using the Ditra underlayment, after using cement board for years. The huge benefit is that it can be cut with a razor blade, although it still needs to be cemented down to the subfloor using thinset (as cement board does). The difficult, and time consuming part is trying to fill in all of the squares with thinset when laying the tile. You must move the trowel back and forth in all directions to get the air bubbles out and get every square filled in with thinset. It is very aggravating! I guess it's still easier than cutting cement board to fit and installing all the screws in the cement board.

This is a good product that was relatively easy to use. In the past we have used the lath and concrete approach for setting tiles. We will most likely go back to the metal lathe and concrete approach, simply because of cost and ease of obtaining supplies. We purchased this product through Amazon and were pleased with the price and service. Thanks, Dennis

This costs more than conventional products, but it's a time saver, easier to install. Good for the do-it-yourselfer. If we put in another tile floor, this is what we'll use again.

Our builders took the cheap way out and spaced our floor support the maximum they could, which made it hard to do ceramic tile when we remodeled our kitchen. This helped make it possible and the floors look AMAZING!

First time I have ever used this material as I have always used cement sheets. I like the way it went down and it has had tile on it for 7 months with no problems. I used this on my house since I wanted the floor to be problem free with no cracks in the tile so far I am very happy and have recommended it to another tile installer and he is now using it. It is kind of expensive but if it eliminates customer problems then I will be happy.

This stuff crushes backerboard. I could not imagine doing a floor with anything else. Little pricey, but worth it. I have never had a cracked tile over this stuff.
