You haven't heard anything until you've heard this. The first time I heard Mary Schneider's version of the Willam Tell Overture, I cracked up.
But after listening again, I realised just how amazing her pin-point accuracy is in her yodeling. Also her vocal range is astounding: from a baritone E to a coloratura soprano high C-sharp! When singing the VERY cheesy lyrics to a few numbers, she delivers a crisp clean baritone that reminds me of the late Anna Russell. But her yodeling flights of fancy are frequently amazing. You won't want to listen to it too often - all that yodeling may get on your nerves, like so many arias by coloratura sopranos - but if you need a smile and a giggle on a dark day, this may be the cure.

And yes, I also purchased volume two. More about that later...

This was a good solid mix of the classics and yodeling, exactly as described, but it is surprisingly restrained, as if it is perfectly fine to yodel the classics. So I was expecting a bit more of the yodeling and a little less of the classics insofar as Ms. Schneider is actually quite a good vocalist.

This performance is "offbeat" to say the least. Many people, including myself, laugh when they first hear Ms. Schneider yodelling! But, after awhile, you come to realize that this lady is a true musician. She sings in-tune and with spirit and soul! And, she does have a beautiful soprano voice when she sings. First of all, the disclaimer. I found out about this CD by consulting a website which suggested things to force people to listen to while they are restrained in erotic bondage. The intent there was no doubt less than complimentary.

That said, however, I've found it to be a marvelous album which I listen to often. It should, in most cases, be played at full volume through as many speakers as are available.

I was allowed to use it only once at my local adult social club, at the end of the night when it was time to let the lovebirds know it was time to head home to their own roost. It wasn't popular that night, although it was effective.

Many a time it has helped me to get through the drudgery of household chores, doing laundry, washing dishes, and so forth, with a smile on my face.

More than once, having driven up close to a car playing heavy bass thumping contemporary music I've put Mary's CD on my car player and pumped it also to full volume, and left my younger compatriots in the next car stunned.

Recommended.

GOD HELP ME I CAN"T STOP LAUGHING!!

Thank-you to Mary Schneider for having the courage to put this cd out. I think she was dead serious when she recorded this. But what a delighfully cheesy combination of mixing yodelling and classical music. Her yodelling version of the William Tell Overture will have you in stitches on the floor in seconds, and is worth the price of the cd alone. This cd will appeal to all ages, from young children to senior citizens. You cannot be in a bad mood after listening to this cd. Pure joy. The classical music is beautiful and relaxing to hear, and Mary's yodelling parts will just have you laughing like no tomorrow. When i worked at HMV Records, one of the staff members found this one day and we all were cracking up listening to this and some of us even started arguing because it was the only copy in the store and four of us wanted to buy it. Luckily i spoke up for it first. There is such light-hearted humor in her approach to the yodelling and singing. I can't help but think of the classic Bugs Bunny cartoons of yesterday and all the great classical music used. Guaranteed, if you live to be a hundred years old you will not find a more obscure, but highly listenable cd. If you love classical music then get this cd. The pure novelty factor of this cd is unbeatable.

Has to be heard to be believed

One suspects that this was recorded in all seriousness.
However despite the two vocal tracks, which are really dire, the whole is quite a pleasant surprise and not as bad as you might think.
The "Hooked on Classics treatment" to the tracks works.
The yodelling is actually very good.
Whatever the artist intended this will bring a smile to your face and after purchase you will play it more than once.

Who would have thought yodelling the classics with such convincing panache and musicality was possible ? Well, I didn' t until I heard the opening track of this cd on the French radio. I was simply blown away. I normally listen to classical music in a serious manner but always keep an open mind to interpretations which deviate from the expected norm or format. As soon as I heard the opening track, I knew that I would have to get this cd, only to be told by the French radio presenter that it had been deleted and that you would be very lucky indeed to find a copy anywhere. Merde alors! A friend of mine who had also heard the track managed to track down a copy ih the US but had to pay top dollars to acquire it. So, imagine my surprise and delight when I found a copy on Amazon UK for only £ 9.99 . Needless to say I simply seized the opportunity and never regretted having done so. This cd will brighten up these gloomy dark Winter evenings and will cheer you up no end. The whole cd is beautifully and thoughtfully put together and Mary Schneider yodels her heart out all the way through with great aplomb, coping with the fast and difficult passages of Rossini's William Tell and showing a great sense of fun in the clarinet polka and the Tristsch Tratsch polka. She is also more than competently supported by the Sydney International Orchestra, Melinda Schneider( her daughter? ) and the Khan Dawson Singers.
In a sense this cd is reminiscent of the famous cats'duet with Schwartzkopf and de Los Angeles. It's all good fun . If you see this cd for sale , just grab it as well as Mary Schneider's recording. You will not regret it.
I guarantee it.
In the meantime, may I make a request and ask that KCM reinstate this recording in their catalogue immediately so as to let the music community discover and enjoy this little gem ? Thanks!

Dotée d'une technique et d'une maîtrise du chant tyrolien irréprochables, Mary Schneider nous offre sans le vouloir un des albums les plus drôles et délirants de l'histoire du disque de part les aspects imprévisibles de ses vocalises, relevant de l'acrobatie sans filet!
Dès le début du disque, l'orchestre international de Sydney nous entraîne sur un rythme effréné dans l'univers de la chanteuse.
