I made only two changes, and the heel pain is already decreasing. Yesterday morning, I had no pain when I woke up, and today, very little. The first change is, sadly, giving up my Birkenstocks. The second change is using these inserts.
What I particularly like about these inserts is that they're small enough to fit into my shoes (generally a 7 or 7.5, normal width, depending on the type and manufacturer). Many of the shoe inserts on the rack in the stores I visited just looked so large, I didn't see how they'd ever fit into my shoes. But these were just the right size. Another thing I like is that they're removable, so you can buy just one pair and move them among different pairs of shoes as needed (great if you're on a budget).
They don't cover the whole bottom of the shoe; there's a padded part for the heel and some arch support, but the balls of your feet and your toes do not have any part of the insert under them. There are some small holes in the foremost part; I'm not sure of the function of those. I, personally, did not find these to slide around in any type of shoe, despite the fact that there's no adhesive on the bottoms.
I had the most success with these in non-dress shoes. Any dress shoes with a bit of heel (even a chunky platform heel) bend these inserts in odd ways that are not altogether comfortable.Read more ›
Over time, wearing good supportive shoes with inserts such as these coupled with aggressive application of other appropriate measures whenever we start to feel the pain returning should keep most of us pain free most of the time. That is probably the best we can hope for.

Comfortable, but after wearing 5 hours walking & standing, I still had pain in my right heel. Not quite as promised.Published 1 day ago by Teresa S McCumber
Didn't really help me. My heel actually started hurting more after wearing, plus it moves around in my shoe and doesn't stay put.Published 13 days ago by Chrisa10
Seems to provide adequate support to arch − important, while providing sufficient buffer for the heel.Published 27 days ago by Amazon Customer
For a heel pain orthotic I expected something more substantial in the heel area. I also expected something of better quality from Dr. Scholl's.Published 2 months ago by SKE
