About the Author

Neal McCluskey is the director of Cato's Center for Educational Freedom. He is the author of Feds in the Classroom: How Big Government Corrupts, Cripples, and Compromises American Education and manages Cato's Public Schooling Battle Map, an interactive database of values and identity-based conflicts in public schools.

Corey A. DeAngelis is an adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute's Center for Educational Freedom. He is also the Director of School Choice at the Reason Foundation.

Neal McCluskey is the director of the Cato Institute's Center for Educational Freedom. He is the author or co-editor of several books, including "The Fractured Schoolhouse: Reexamining Education for a Free, Equal, and Harmonious Society" (forthcoming), "School Choice Myths: Setting the Record Straight on Education Freedom," and "Unprofitable Schooling: Examining Causes of, and Fixes for, America’s Broken Ivory Tower." McCluskey also maintains Cato’s Public Schooling Battle Map, an interactive database of values and identity‐based conflicts in public schools.

McCluskey holds an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, where he double majored in government and English, a master’s in political science from Rutgers University, Newark, and a PhD in public policy from George Mason University.

When he's not working on education policy, you'll often find him in his backyard grilling or smoking either tasty, or burned, grub.

The best book to explain parental/educational choice to skeptics

This book goes through and dispels the common liberal excuses for why we can only have school choice in college but not K-12. It uses data to show the benefits of school choice. One of my favorite books and is an easy read.

If you want to learn more about educational choice because of school closures and remote learning this is the book for you.

As a big fan of Corey DeAngelis taking on school choice opponents on Twitter, this book provided a succinct and informative breakdown of the myths surrounding education dollars following students. I could not recommend it more to any person, ranging from school teachers to researchers, for insightful data on the complexities of school funding and how funding should rightly fund the student, not institutions.

This book is nothing but propaganda intended to sell the "school privatization is good" narrative that the Christian Nationalists are trying to force on the American public. This is what happens when you start with a conclusion and then find evidence to fit your conclusion.
