Hard to make out some of the narrator's words

Overall this is interesting and briefly shows some exercizes that can be very benificial and will later translate to under saddle. The lessons are pretty brief and are mostly an overview. The narrator is quite soft spoken and I missed quite a bit of what he was saying. The images are beautiful though and pretty self explanatory though some lack setup. It was interesting to see that they had a goat and a dog doing the same exercizes! I would prefer something a little less basic for the money, it would be nice if it went just a little further into each movement, setup, execution, desired result & trouble shooting etc. It could be that this is all new to me but I like things spelled out a bit more clearly. I HAVE SINCE PURCHASED the accompanying book to this DVD and hightly recommend it. The exercizes touched on in the DVD are explained clearly and in detail in the book with tons of diagrams & lovely photos. The book goes from work in hand to advanced exersizes and will keep you busy for quite some time. I recommend you buy both but if you only want to spend money on one, buy the book.

pretty pictures, but very little instruction

I go back to this book every couple of years to see if I've learned enough to make use of it. The author describes his equipment pretty well, and shows lots of photos of beautiful horses doing lovely movements, but there's very little explanation of how the reader would actually do any of the training shown here. e.g. Doing shoulder-in in hand is useful, says the book, but it does not say where I should stand or put my hands and body to lead the horse in shoulder-in.

What was missed in the DVD is covered in detail in this book. Very concise, lots of instructional diagrams & photos - the exercizes in the DVD are clearly explained. Should be sold as a package!

This is a great book for anyone interested in learning about the art of schooling in hand. I loved the book and have applied many of the exercises with a variety of horses. It has something for everyone and every type of discipline.

I read the book before seeing the DVD and they do compliment each other very nicely. I feel there is enough information given for the average horse owner to go try it! Just don't expect piaffe and half passes in hand on day one. If you designate 10 minutes a day, you will be surprised how far you will get. I teach dressage lessons and I love having my student play with in hand work becuase it helps them learn the movements (like shoulder-in, haunches-in and half pas) before they try it from the saddle. The stepping under of the hind legs is fun too! (I call it "goat on the mountain".) I've taught this to a few horses now- it just takes time, so give it a try!

Needs to be longer - stunning visuals and soothing sound

This video is that rare thing, something of beauty which is also useful. It is delightful to see horses of all ages and types working so calmly and confidently in such correct outlines, at ease in the arena where dogs wander, cows peer through the trees and a goat dances in the Spanish Walk. Neither does performing in costume in formal gardens along fountain-lined pathways bother the horses one little bit.

As an Australian, I had no problem at all with the audio - the commentator's voice was perfectly clear and his words well-enunciated.

The fact that a beginner might have difficulty understanding some of the terminology should not prevent them watching it; any viewer with an interest in horses will gain something from this simply excellent video.
