When the Schrade 168UH fillet knife came, I opened the box and was I surprised! The fit, feel & finish were impeccable and the knife came sharp right out of the box. All I had to do was to touch it up to meet my personal speciation for sharpness. The blade heel, front bolster, right and left handle sides (skins) and rivets were finished where I couldn't find a single fault with the way they were fabricated, assembled, and finished. This knife looked as good as any production fillet knife I've seen or owned before. I couldn't give this knife a 5-star rating because I haven't used it for a complete fishing season. I'll update this rating (increase or decrease) after a complete year of use. Taylor Brands LLC priced the new Schrade knife at a very reasonable price and I hope they maintain and additionally improve the quality of their Schrade line of knives. Since now being manufactured in China, they have an uphill battle with the stigma of the Schrade line of knives across the board. So far I’ve been delightfully surprised at their quality. The all leather sheath seems well made and properly fits the knife.
I would recommend the Schrade 168UH Uncle Henry Walleye Fillet knife to anyone interested in a low-cost production fillet knife and I hope Taylor Brands LLC maintains the fine quality of this knife.
First off...The Looks: The stag handle and stainless plus just the "outdoors" look of it is great. The fitting of the handle to steel is perfect and well formed...and in its' own way...quite elegant. The thickness of the stag also creates better control of the knife when using as well as being comfortable in the hand. Its' texture of stag is clearly felt, but smooth, instead of that "rough" you sometimes come across.
Second...Strength: The one piece steel Blade/Handle ensures strength and durability hands down. The three steel rivets that hold the stag grips to the handle are smoothed finished with no rough or sharp edges will keep the stag grips from coming loose and lessen any cracking or breakage on the off chance of dropping the knife down onto a hard surface like a rocky creek or river bank, or the street where you parked your car. The Hilt itself is of stainless steel. Tho, I don't know how it attaches separately to the one piece blade...it is quite strong and well fitted. The transition from the Hilt to Stag is also well fitted and smooth. This boost my confidence in the durability of the knife.
Third...Flexibility: The backstrap taper from hilt to tip of blade makes it, in my opinion, greatly user friendly and less fatigue of the hands and fingers while fileting. Also it adds to more control of the knife. Making it easier to get more meat from the bone of animal or fish. Big plus in my book.
Lastly Sharpness: I have never had a Uncle Henry that can be beat in sharpness and holding an edge against other name brands.Read more ›
Before anyone balks, yes I know the current ones are made over seas. this seems not to mater because the quality of my new knife is as good as the ones I have had for many years.
Comes sharp out of the box. Holds an edge well. Love the handle, it takes me back to my childhood. Case is made well. Very pleased with the knife. I would buy again if need be and Amazon has always exceeded my anticipation.

Handle and sheath is nice. Blade is low quality on mine. Needed sharpening and one side of blade is actually wavy down to the tip which screws up that side of the edge.Published 2 months ago by NSJ
