weapon. This world has teeth and it's nice to be able to bite back.
I don't normally carry a pen and hadn't purchased this specifically as a "pen", but it has been nice to not have to search for one...and not have to worry about breaking this in my pocket either.
I like that this isn't THAT aggressive-looking too
The pen is rather elegant in a very simple way and writes rather well. It's not the holy grail of writing master pieces, but it writes better than the cheap pens that most of us use. The cap presses to the back of the pen when writing without any issue. It is heavier than your standard pen and you feel the weightiness of the pen as you write, however it is not really a burden on your hand as you write.
On the actual tactical side of the pen, the pen falls a bit short for me. The point of the pen is not as sharp and will not pierce. But then again that might be a plus if you were looking for something more less than lethal field. Out of the factory the pocket clip comes very tight, which required loosening as the pen is too smooth and does really provide a good grip to pull the pen out with the clip on so tight.
Overall, it is a good pen. If you have more budget then I would rather recommend the Columbia River Knife and Tool TPENWK Williams Tactical Pen. It is larger, pointer, more elegant, low key, and the shape provides better grip for the draw. I think this pen only out performs in the fact that this is a screw on cap and that it is cheaper.
It is certainly sturdy and has a good weight to it, with each end (unopened) able to be used in pressure points. As other reviewers have noted, the unscrewing mechanism (to get to the pen itself) is somewhat loose but with several threaded layers not likely to come off completely without you noticing.
I like the fact it has "Schrade" etched on the pocket clip, whereas some other choices have "Uzi", "Smith & Wesson" or "Colt. If I was taking it through security somewhere, you could easily dismiss any concerns with "It's just a well-made German pen". Try giving that excuse with a weapons manufacturer's name. Also, a friend has the Colt pen which most definitely LOOKS like a tool, which is why he's ordering one as well.
The twist lock is not very good and requires a good bit of tightening to secure it and even then it can come loose which is how I lost this pen. I ended up getting a different pen because of this and the fact that there is no where to secure the cap when you are using the pen.
