Schumacher jump starter products must be charged on a regular basis as per the product manual. It is recommended the PSJ-2212 unit be charged immediately after initial purchase, again each time after the jump starter is used, and every 30 days to keep the unit fully charged for use. If the jump starter is not charged regularly, the unit will not have sufficient power to jump start a vehicle and the battery will not continue to hold a charge over time

This product has saved me and my friends from being stranded more times than I care to count. When people are having car issues, I automatically offer to lend this to them. Everyone who has used it has been incredibly happy to have this on-hand when needed. A few folks who work in garages and at dealerships have noted that this is a very fine unit, as compared to what a person could walk out of Walmart with.
Weak/failing batteries, alternators, and starters can leave a person stranded. I never worry about (and nor do my friends) that anymore with one caveat: in the cold months, if I recall correctly, the manual indicates that the internal battery must not be allowed to freeze. During Winter I leave the unit in my house or heated garage. I used a shipping invoice envelope to hold the manual, but of course it tore and the manual was lost some time ago.
I typically don't leave it plugged in, but it holds a charge for a very, very long time. I think the longest time without a fresh charge was 6 months and it still fired up a friend's truck immediately.
Pros: The cables are a good length (not too long, not too short), the jaws are replaceable, reliability has been outstanding, and there are no features that aren't absolutely required (lights, USB ports, etc). The number of calls I have made to a towing service have been reduced to 0 in 5 years.
Cons: It is pretty hefty, but I'd rather have it be heavy and reliable than lightweight, under-powered, and flaky.
I recommend the unit, the brand, and after mine wears out (still 5 years old and going strong) I will not consider another manufacturer for the replacement.
I started the car. It worked beautifully....and even after the jump, it was still at 95%, so it obviously has a large multi-use capacity. Everybody should have a jumper in their car, and I will feel very secure hauling this one around with me.
Update: I love this! I had to use it twice today. When I used it leaving home, it was at 95%. After I jumped the car, it was still at 93%. When I got home after having to jump the car again, it was at 94%. So I jumped the car twice within two hours and it used very little of its power capacity. It charged back up to 100% in about 5 minutes. In order to get the percentage readout, you need to have it plugged in. I feel so confident carrying this around with me. Most highly recommended.
i work at a car dealer and we use this unit to jump start at least 5 cars per day, it has no problem starting any kind of cars and trucks, the only time where it fell short was when trying to start a F350 6.0 disel with a completely dead battery that was drawing power. other than that i have not had any other cars were it struggled with.
the unit itself is very solid, clamps are good and solid construction, its a little bit on the heavier side (i think official weight is ~25 pounds) but thats expected if you need a powerful unit.
also a neat little feature that the unit have is that even when the unit is off if the clamps are hooked to the battery it shows how much voltage is in the battery or the battery is getting, this is useful in know if the battery is completly dead or just a little low, its also useful when the car is on cause you can check if the battery is getting enough voltage and know if the alternator is working or not without having to grab a multi meter.
we usually use it all day to jump anywhere from 5-20 cars, and then charge it at night. so far we have had this unit for almost a year and its still running strong with no issues. i would highly recommend it for anyone who needs a jumper for multiple daily use. if you only needed it for emergency or need one that you can easily cary around i would go with a smaller unit
The slim design lets me put it behind the seat of my pickup where it rides securely and hidden. I re-charge it after each use or at least monthly. (Replacement batteries are available. I checked this before buying.) Clamps are among the best. They are heavy and the jaws are robust. Despite their heavy construction, they grab side terminal lugs well. (Cheaper clamps usually slip off.) Cables are long enough to put the unit on the ground next to the vehicle you are starting. (Many of these often have short cables and you end up trying to balance the thing on top of the radiator or battery.) Re-charges rapidly (about an hour or two). 12V tap is conveniently located on the front of the starter pack. That's a nice feature if you need lighting or if you use a warning beacon when working on a roadside-stranded vehicle. (It also works great as a 12V source for lighting up a campsite.)
Unless a better model comes out, for the money, I'd buy this again.
