Product Description

This fully automatic microprocessor controlled 6 ampere fast charge charger monitors battery condition and adjusts charge rate downward to prevent battery damage. Perfect for car, small truck, motorcycle, lawn tractor lead-acid and AGM batteries. A 4 ampere medium charge has a self-adjusting charge rate ideal for everyday charging needs and keeping your battery in peak condition. The 2 ampere slow charge is great for charging and maintaining small batteries; charges motorcycle, ATV, snowmobile and lawn tractor batteries. The auto voltage detection means the charger automatically determines whether the connected battery is a 6 volt battery or a 12 volt battery.

Picked one of these up last weekend as I had a rather large dead car battery in a vehicle that hadn't been driven in a few months.

The manual covers several different models but shouldn't confuse most anyone.
A red light comes on at the battery connection symbol to show you have it connected correctly
A yellow charging (lightning bolt) light comes on once you select a charge rate (turtle/rabbit symbols).
A green battery level light comes on once the battery is fully charged. It won't light up until it is finished charging.

I let the battery charge overnight and it indicated a full charge the next day. Battery has been working fine in vehicle for a week since charging.

It has a built-in fan that kicks on while charging. Not loud, but does make audible sound.

I picked this model due to good reviews of the Schumacher brand, and the fact that it has temperature sensor and will go to a trickle charge when the battery is full thanks to the microprocessor control. I certainly didn't want to boil out what was probably still a good battery with an old style "dumb" charger. Automatically desulfates the battery which is good too.

I hope to get many years of occasional use out of the device.

I'd recommend it.

All my battery chargers were lent to son-in-laws who never returned them. This time I was glad. I lucked out and got this one for $21 at Walmart. Supposedly if you put the clips on the wrong terminal nothing will happen or it you touch the clips together. Well I am not brave or stupid enough to try it so I do not know.
If the clips are on the right post you will get an idiot light telling you so. It is only when the clips are on properly that it will start supply juice to the battery. The charger does the usual charge and shut off when done or maintain the battery. You can select between different batteries by pushing the button. I charged a lawn tractor battery. It shows red when it is dead, and green when it is good to go. It is pretty idiot proof for this idiot.

I own several Schumacher products now and all work flawlessly, and this one is no exception. I use this charger to maintain my fleet of vehicles when I'm not driving them regularly enough for the vehicle to charge them. I also like the automatic feature of this and larger Schumacher chargers. It will automatically switch from 6A down to 2A when needed and will turn off when the battery is completely charged, it will not continue to supply voltage to the battery and "cook" it. There are 3 easy to view LED's to tell you the state of charge of the battery.

This was purchased for a neighbor who has little experience with chargers. It appears to be a great choice, operating automatically to fit different circumstances. The information on the Amazon website is misleading- this charger does NOT allow the user to select between two different charge rates. The higher charge rate is for 12 volt batteries and the lower for 6 volts. All functions are automatic- just hook it up and let it work. It is protected against internal damage from reverse polarity hookups and touching of the battery clamps.

like someone said, It has a built-in fan that kicks on while charging. Bottom gets hot so leave space for fan to cool.
Forgot difference but consider other models (xc10, etc)

I've only used it once to top off a 600CCA car battery. It worked as designed. When complete, the led's showed that it went go into maintenance mode. I hope it keeps going like this.
It's pretty small so it's a good size for storing in a rolling tool cabinet.

This charger works great for extending the battery life if you have a vehicle sitting for any length of time. Not only will it charge it cleans the plates inside your battery. My motor home batteries lasted over a decade by keeping them charged and conditioned while not on the road.
