Why Shcumacher couldn't have used better components for their power supply I don't know. Bestek did it complete for only $26.
I tested it thoroughly today and it charged two completely drained 6 cell batteries using the Bestek and still had 50% battery left
Additionally the unit has literally been a life saver. My husband must sleep with a positive airway machine that needs to be plugged in to AC while he sleeps. We have 1 unit that we have dedicated to that purpose and it provides sufficient power to run his machine all night without a problem! As long as you keep the AC requirements under the manufactures specs (400 watt surge, 200 watt continuous) you will have no problems. If you try to run a toaster or a coffee maker though, these things run 700+ watts, and the unit automatically shuts down.
For the down side, yes the unit is heavy. It is in essence a car battery with an handle, plus a power inverter, with an air compressor and work light thrown in for good measure. But we knew it was heavy when we bought them so that doesn't bother us, and the upside far outweighs the weight issue.
All in all, it is an excellent unit that does all that it was advertised to do.
Ok, so far I have tried the USB & 120v AC. First, I charged the Schumacher to 100% and used it to recharge an iHome portable speaker (bought here on Amazon) that has been in use for 2 hours via USB. That took about half an hour for the speaker to be fully charged and brought the Schumacher power down to 91%.
Next I recharged the Schumacher back to 100% and used it to recharge a AA-size lithium battery. The battery was about 20% discharged, and it took over half an hour to be fully recharged with the Schumacher. The lithium battery brought down the Schumacher to 88%.
I don't know about these people making claims they can take Schumacher on a weekend trip to charge this and that. So far, I have used it to charge two small items, and they used up a lot of power. My question is, and it's an important one, how much confidence do you have to jump start your car/truck/whatever if you have been using it to recharge this and that for the weekend? My confidence in the Schumacher is shot after seeing how much a little speaker and ONE battery can drain from it.
Overall, I'm happy with the purchase because you never know when you might need it. Hopefully, I will never have to inflate more than one tire, recharge my cell phone and jump start my truck around the same time.
Day 1 after receiving the Schumacher XP2260, I charged it up, tested all of its functional parts since I bought it used, and put it in the trunk of my car.
Day 2: I rolled into a parking spot at work, opened my trunk and was grabbing my documents and work related items from the trunk, and heard the car next to me trying to start, their starter performing the sound of the dead battery, *Clickclickclickclickclick*
I laughed, and said to the person whom had their door open with a frustrated expression on their face, "You need a jump?" "Yeah..." They said, sighing with disappointment.. "I don't have any cables though..." They proceeded to say... With that, like a boss, I whipped out my fancy looking Schumacher XP2260, and said excitedly "I've been wanting to test this baby out since I got it!"
They popped their hood for me, I effortlessly put the unit down near their battery and attached the cables, turned the appropriate switch to ON, and told them to crank it, it started as if the battery had never died. I really wish I had bought one of these units years ago, I am thinking of buying many more as gifts for close family such as my siblings, every car should have one of these in the trunk at all times, especially since it has 2 outlets on it that are the same as American Wall Outlets, so you can simply plug anything into it such as Televisions or Game Consoles, or both!! What a nifty camping device! The built in flashlight is also a great addition, this thing I feel comes with all the bells and whistles, I don't normally write reviews this early, however having fully tested every part I feel confident this thing will serve me for years to come. If it does not, rest assured I will update my review with haste.
UPDATE: It has been over 1 month since I have charged this unit, yet I use it every day to play guitar and other things, I have used it to jump cars and to pump up flat tires. It has 69% Battery Power left; much much more than I thought it would, I have really been abusing the outlets by plugging in high wattage guitar amplifiers into it and playing them on the go. Very happy with this product, I look forward to buying many more as gifts!
