The brand from yesterday that's riding into tomorrow:
Schwinn was established in 1895, by Ignaz Schwinn in Chicago, IL. Remembered for iconic bikes like the Phantom, the Varsity, the Stingray and the original Krate and Picker series of children's bikes, Schwinn has made it possible for riders of all ages to experience the thrill of riding a bicycle. Children and adults around the world trust the Schwinn name for quality and value. The joys of learning to ride for the first time, sharing an excursion with friends, proudly completing a new training regime or enjoying a local scenic route are all best enjoyed on a Schwinn.
Just like the original bikes made by Ignaz Schwinn, you can count on Schwinn to innovate in ways that enhance and simplify the riding experience for all generations of fans.
Enjoy the freedom of riding a Schwinn bicycle.

Pros - I was not very comfortable biking, so I wanted a cruiser, and I'm glad I got this one. The wide tires are stable so I can go over bumps or whatever in the road and not worry about it. The multiple gears are a requirement for riding in CA (lots of hills), and have worked nicely. I have noticed some issues with the gears not shifting as smootly as I might expect them to (but I don't ride a lot of bikes so this could just be normal), but sometimes it seems like there's a long delay before it actually shifts. I had one issue so far with the chain popping off the gear while riding (was trying to shift), not sure what causes this (maybe it was me), but it was easy enough to pop back on and keep riding. The seat is super comfortable!
Cons - I feel like this bike cannot be tightened as securely as it should be... I've tightened everything as much as possible (also took it to a bike shop) and its fine for riding (I ride about 3 miles to school every day). However, I typically get off via the step through, and after a few times, the seat is always crooked. The seat is a quick release, so its easy to pop and move it back, but it has to be done frequently.
I've also had similar problems with the handlebars. I think its finally tight enough now, but it took a lot of careful adjusting. The handle bar angle is adjustable, there is a piece in the middle that holds it in place, but since its just a round clamp around the middle of the bar (not through it), to hold handlebars up, theres the danger of the handlebars rotating downwards (this happened once and luckily I was just riding around my driveway, probably would have had an accident if I were in a bikelane on the road). So I would also recommend riding with a compact bike tool kit in your bag in case this happens, so you can tighten or fix it on the road. This may be an effect of most cruisers, or possibly because this costs $300 less than some of the nice cruisers. But I also feel similarly about most of the adjustments on the bike - i.e. I adjust the brakes and then over time, they always seem to slip slowly and need re-adjustment.
Overall, love the bike and glad I started with it. Most people buy bikes and never ride them, so its not worth spending a ton of money. 100% perfect for beach or easy rides in parks and trails. If I keep commuting by bike, I might consider a different one in the future, but I'm happy with this purchase so far.
My suggestions to the manufacturer:
1. Improve packing at factory - box was completely open re-taped on 1 corner, multiple punctures through box, the packing material protecting bike was inadequate. However I did receive all the parts and bike was not damaged.
2. Add assembly video on You Tube: Assembly took about 2 hours -1 hour to assemble and 1 hour to adjust the brakes - I had a difficult time adjusting the front brakes to be equidistant from the front tire - finally solved problem by re-screwing front wheel to frame.
Before you follow the instructions for fine tuning the brakes, suggest looking up linear bicycle brake adjustment videos on You Tube. These were more helpful than the instructions which were too basic and not helpful.
3. Improve quality of metal screws - they are too soft and are already stripping out just from assembly. Use extra caution when tightening.
