It was very easy to assemble. Requires only a few basic tools. Adjustable wrench (or open-end wrenches), a set of good hex keys and a screwdriver is all I needed. I would have a local bike professional tune it up after assembly if you don't know how to adjust the derailleur and brakes. However,YouTube has videos and it's not hard once you get the hang of what everything adjusts for.
I did need a gel cover for the seat or would definitely recommend riding shorts.
I ride about 20 miles a day on this bike and overall am very happy with it!
At 73 years old, I was looking for a bike for fitness and fun. Difficult to decide between comfort or hybrid bike and a road bike. This is not a comfortable ride with no springs and rock hard skinny tires, you feel every bump, but the straight handle bars give you a more comfortable upright posture.
It weighs just under 27 pounds with all the bells and whistles mounted. It looks great, seems to be well built and engineered. I bought it April 2015 from Walmart for $304. As far as I can tell that is a great price for what you get.
Caution: I am 5'10" and standing over the upright bike, my family jewels remind me that I aj Just barely tall enough for this bike. I don't think this is the right bike for many people. Those who was a fast road bike, will forgo the comfort of the stright handle bar for the 1600 model. Those who want a softer neighborhood bike will chose some other "comfort" or "hybrid" bike.
If you don't already have a bike, be prepared to spend around $100 additional for helmet, pump, bike lock, lights etc.
-Shimano derailleurs and gears
-Very lightweight, high quality aluminum frame. Nice welds.
What's not so good:
-A lot of adjustment required to get gears working properly, potentially due to misalignment caused by shipping. Both my deraileurs got bent during shipping (or were never installed correctly).
-Handlebar height not adjustable much, and may be too low for some people. I'm 6'3" (but am long waisted) such that the frame is the right size based on my legs but the handlebars are uncomfortably too low. I'm going to have to pay for a different handlebar neck to make this bike work long term.
-Seat is incredibly uncomfortable. For a hybrid, I'd expect a more comfortable seat rather than something you'd expect to see on a road bike. They make call this a hybrid, but with the seat they provide and the lack of suspension, I wouldn't dare take this bike anywhere but the streets.
-You'll probably need to take this to a bike shop and have everything adjusted. Out of the box this required a LOT of tuning to get the brakes and shifting right.
