I sat on the bike eager to ride my first workout - 5 minutes in I get the error "Please Pedal, program paused..." even though I'm pedaling as if they're giving away free pie at the end of the ride. I unplug, plug back in, this time pedaling won't even start the bike. Start up the program manually and 5 seconds in, "Please Pedal" is back. Checking the user manual, Console displays “Please Pedal” error code the suggests "Check Speed Sensor (requires shroud removal)" and that "Speed sensor should be aligned with magnet and connected to data cable. Realign sensor if necessary. Replace if there is any damage to the sensor or the connecting wire."
I ordered this from Amazon with expert assembly because I have moderate to severe carpal tunnel syndrome and assembling an exercise bike is just enough work to possibly hurt my hands and wrists. Again, I stand behind the expert assemblers. My appointment went very well.
So I begin disassembling so much of the work they did - removal of the shroud requires professional, proprietary bike store tools (a crank puller, which thankfully I already have) and lo and behold - the speed sensor is not only aimed incorrectly, the single Phillips head screw holding it in place is loose. And, even though plenty of other wires/connectors/things are hot-glued into position, this thing is barely held in place with a plastic clip. Please see photos for reference! The picture is after I aimed the sensor correctly and scooted it closer to the magnets, so that it would register properly. Wiring looked fine, but the sensor was absolutely in an incorrect position. Probably jostled loose in shipping, or under the normal vibrations of using the equipment. Shame! Shame!!
Anyway, what I recommend to anyone who's brave enough to fix this is to scoot the sensor so that it's about 1/4" away from the magnets that spin on the pulley. Temporarily put one of the cranks back on the bike, and test it by hand. You cranking the bike should wake it up if it's still plugged in, or start a program and pedal it by hand for 10 seconds, then stop cranking it. The display should show "Please pedal." Crank it again by hand to test. If you notice that the RPMs and speed don't match at all how you're pedaling, you may need to back off the sensor. Unfortunately, there's no way to do this safely without partially re-assembling the bike. Use a dab of hot glue to keep the sensor in position. When you're done, put those crank arms back on hopefully for the last time and torque them down to 305–391 in-lbs with a torque wrench. Pay close attention to the square spindle as to not gnaw it off with improper torque!
This bike would have easily gotten a 4 star review from me if I didn't have to disassemble it to fix a manufacturing flaw.
Overall I'm very satisfied with it for the price. There is little in the mid range price market for stationary bikes. I did a lot of research and there are tons on the high end and lots on the cheaper end but the reviews of lesser expensive models are sketchy with quality issues. This bike is on the lesser expensive side but as I'm a home user and have other equipment, I was looking for an additional piece and not break my budget.
It's fairly easy to assemble
Good workout options (20 or so)
Has USB port
Has power port for Phone/Music, etc.
Good quality for the price
Display is not backlit so it's difficult to see without lighting over/near it
Seat could be more cushioned or they could offer a seat cover (I plan on purchasing a seat cover)
Wrench that comes with the setup is poor and you will need a better wrench to tighten the seat (or otherwise risk stripping the nut)
The resistance wheel had gouges and damage- obviously during manufacturers handling. Hidden but shoul not have occurred
Tolerance gaps on cowling are too large
Minor pre- existing damage to cowling ( scratches)
It remains to be seen if the bike will hold up to use and be as durable as a Nordic Track but for the price I'll take the risk.
-- 01/09: This bike was delivered to my house
-- 01/18: Schwinn sent it's vendor GoConfigure technician to my home, assembling the bike. I was struggling with bad bronchitis so unable to try out the bike; just signed the paperwork once the technician said it was done.
-- 01/23: I felt a bit better so decided to try the bike but immediately was annoyed by a loud, clicking sound (my husband sitting next room over yelled "what's that noise?"). After trying multiple times, I called Schwinn customer services -- They offered me two options 1). Pay Swhinn $139 for "a diagnostic service" ; 2) I disassemble the pedals/connecting parts and reassemble them back to see if it stops the sound. Are you serious?!

I'm glad I bought the model with the backlit screen. It helps a lot. The features are great but some are out of date...for instance, the bike is equipped with Bluetooth but it will not play music from your device through the bike's speakers via Bluetooth. The Bluetooth is only available to connect to Schwinn's app. However, the bike does most of it's jobs well and is very quiet. So far, I consider it a great purchase at the Black Friday sale price.
After two weeks of regular use the program kept going into pause mode. A quick call to Schwinn Customer Service determined the speed sensor needed a small adjustment. They guided me through it and the problem was solved. Great customer service.
I strongly recommend this bike.
Other than this the bike is great. It was easy to put together and there are tons of different courses to select from. The Schwinn app. is also very good and logs your workouts in great detail.
If the seat were comfortable and the distance from the seat to the handle bars closer, this bike would get 5 stars across the board.
