My son played with this toy 25 years ago and it gave him many hours of fun, we went through two birds as he played with it so much, I don't recall what happened to the first bird but the second one we still had in our closet. I brought out the Tim bird for my 5 year old grandson to play with the other day, but unfortunately the band inside broke after about an hour of playing with it, but in all fairness the band was 25 yrs old! I am ordering a new bird today as my grandson was thrilled with the toy as was his father. If you have a large space free of buildings and trees where you can fly this it's a really fun toy. A small child would need the assistants of an adult to wind it up and throw it, my grandson however at age 5 needed no assistance at all.

These have been around since the 80's when I was a kid. I first bought one of these in Paris when I was visiting family back in 1984. Street vendors were selling these things everywhere. They were a blast to fly. Now that I have my own kids I thought I'd buy one for them to enjoy. You have to be pretty gentle with them though. The wings can tear pretty easily and you really need to take care not to wind them up too much. It is best to fly these in an open grass field.

This is a great product. We used it to help understand our bird flight. These are hard to find, but fine to play with as long as you are not to rough with them. My son used it to help get some ideas on how to do a science project about flight. My husband is actually the one that plays with it.

I've been through two of these birds. The first lasted for about 20 minutes of flying time, which was actually several months of use (average of 10-15 second flights). Then the wing brace separated from the wing material. The second bird's wing separated from the brace on about the fifth flight, probably about 10 minutes after coming out of the package.

These fly fairly well and are fun while they last but I will not purchase another one due to the lack of durability during normal use.

I give science demonstations at Libraries and schools. The kids love it when I make Tim bird fly around the room. I found quickly that when a group of kids charge after the bird and try to pick it up all at once it gets broken quickly. What I do now is assign one child to retrieve the bird and instruct the rest to stay still even if the bird lands near them. The kids have no problem following these directions if they are made clear.

I also found a plastic container that is the same size as Tim Birds packaging. Between flights I keep him in this container (I use the part of the original packaging that is shaped like the bird and put this inside the plastic container), You might be able to forego the plastic container and just tape the original packaging back to gethor each time but I needed something more practical.

I've had many Tim Birds over the years. On my recent purchase they changed the rubber band. It used to be a thick black band that was not like a normal rubber band. Now it appears to be a large normal rubberband. My flights have not been as long and dramatic as in the past. Still impressive but I am going to inquire about this issue directly with them.

Every boy who has played with ours loves this deceptively simple toy. They love the colors, seeing the mechanics inside, winding, the noisy flight, running after it. Everything. Even dogs seem to like it. We have given this as a b-day present a few times and it always gets rave reviews. So refreshing to see kids excited about a toy that has no batteries or screen. Works fine indoors (need a big room) and outdoors if there is not too much wind. Step back in time for a change of pace.

I ordered this toy for my 53 year old brother. It was well packaged and came in time for Christmas. All of us had fun with it. It is very neat to watch, and it provided hours of entertainment. Thanks.

The bird is exactly as you remember for the classic toy. The bird comes with a replacement band and tool to replace the band when it breaks. At 50 turns, the bird flies for about 5-6 seconds. Its done loops, fly in circles, and is easy for our 10yr old to fly. Winding the bird is easy, but requires careful attention to avoid damaging the bird while trying to hold it for winding. I would expect kids under 8 would have a difficult time winding the bird reliably without eventually damaging the body or wing.

Great version of the toy.
