Both rubber bands broke in 5 minutes. What a disappointment. I had one of these as a kid in the 80's and it seemed like these brittle rubber bands have been around since then. I tried to fly it for my daughter and we got 1 toss with the first rubber band and 3 tosses with the spare set. Why the poor quality at $14.99?

15 years ago or so, I had one of these as a kid. I was recently birthday shopping for a nephew of mine, and wondered if they still made these. To my surprise, not only are ornithopters still made, but this seems 100% identical to the one I had as a kid, even down to the packaging. I guess if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

After spending an afternoon flying it around, our little bird made several crash landings, and was totally fine. My only complaint is the tail seems a bit flimsy, particularly in the hinge where you angle it. Overall I think most any kid will have a fun time playing with this thing, and its much cheaper than a drone or RC plane.

I bought this for my 3 y/o grandson. He and his 34 y/o daddy love flying this bird. We had it at camp this past weekend, it went high up into the trees and almost made it to the lake. We are not lake front campers. LOL They had so much fun that they took it home with them. Great memories for sure!

Very pretty toy. My daughter could not wait to fly it but at first flight it broke a wing upon landing. I tried to fix it but it's so thin you cannot glue it (I tried) so I had to tape it. It doesn't fly very well now and unfortunately we have not been able to see it really fly. The plastic head will not pop back on fully either.

My son played with this toy 25 years ago and it gave him many hours of fun, we went through two birds as he played with it so much, I don't recall what happened to the first bird but the second one we still had in our closet. I brought out the Tim bird for my 5 year old grandson to play with the other day, but unfortunately the band inside broke after about an hour of playing with it, but in all fairness the band was 25 yrs old! I am ordering a new bird today as my grandson was thrilled with the toy as was his father. If you have a large space free of buildings and trees where you can fly this it's a really fun toy. A small child would need the assistants of an adult to wind it up and throw it, my grandson however at age 5 needed no assistance at all.

This ornithopter is a great deal of fun, but it only flies for 10-12 seconds. The construction is pretty flimsy so don't let it crash into hard objects. Granted, it is fairly inexpesive so the construction is not a show stopper for the price. But it is over priced for only 10 seconds of flight at a time. My son's 99 cent balsa gliders remain in the air about twice as long.

If this could only fly for at least 30 seconds I would easily give it 4 or possibly 5 stars

This is a most surprising product that seems sturdier than it looks. This was another gift for my 7 year old grandson. With alot of cranks on the propulsion rubber band and a little wind blowing to assist the aerodynamic properties, this bird actually flies on its own when launched from the hand. It is somewhat realistic flight, especially when it lands in a tree.

As a science teacher and mother, I was excited to get and help my young daughter with this after she saw one at a recent science show and wanted a Tim Bird. However, the crank is harder to wind than it should be, the wing paint scrapes off easily, even after the first flight, and our Tim Bird did not come with a spare rubberband drive mechanism as claimed. The wing came unglued from the frame after 3 flights; hopefully our re-gluing it will work. A little more field testing and refining before selling would make this educational toy more fun and less stressful.

Always been a fan of Tim Bird. They are not easily available in India (though they are easily available in quite a few european countries), I had one as a kid and wanted my son to experience one as well. What's unique about the bird (apart from the cheer and fascination it brings in Children's eyes) is the ease with which you can explain mechanics of flying (and help your kids pronounce ornithopters). A design originally adapted from Leonardo Da Vinci, its a welcome change from the remote control toys that kids play with today! Learning with fun can't get better!!
