About the Author

The future is Brian David Johnson's business. As a futurist at Intel Corporation, his charter is to develop an actionable vision for computing in 2020. His work is called "future casting" using ethnographic field studies, technology research, trend data, and even science fiction to provide Intel with a pragmatic vision of consumers and computing. Along with reinventing TV, Johnson has been pioneering development in artificial intelligence, robotics, and using science fiction as a design tool. He speaks and writes extensively about future technologies in articles and scientific papers as well as science fiction short stories and novels (Fake Plastic Love, Nebulous Mechanisms: The Dr. Simon Egerton Stories and the forthcoming This Is Planet Earth). He has directed two feature films and is an illustrator and commissioned painter.

An interesting call for the connection between science fact and fiction to be amped up. The author wants sci-fi writers to more closely base their stories on emerging science and for scientists to respond to the real world implications that are explored in the stories. The constant stream of typos, misspellings and grammatical errors nearly drove me insane.

If you've thought our collective Hollywood consciousness is shaping our future rejoice in the confirmation here. Johnson gives us easy to understand answers and framework for creating your own SF prototype with a light touch and friendly attitude. While I may not agree with HAL losing his mind so much as succumbing to evil I have become an Assimov nut and look forward to examining and creating a new future with bright skies and peaceful AI interactions. Is AI even artificial???? Keep pushing
