Update - A week later I have the correct product. I am now rating it three stars. It would have been four, but for initially sending a mis-labelled box of colored wire. The caliper looks just like the picture in the listing. On initial try out it seems to work as it should. The LCD read out comes on as soon as the slide moves, even a little bit. There is also an "off/on" button. The slide feels a little rough to move, but there is a small knurled wheel that is helpful to control small precise movements. the pieces feel like they are precision fitted, no loose play at all.
A word of warning - the "Operating Instructions" were written by someone with a very limited command of the English language, and more than half of the instruction sheet is about some other model, not this product. Nevertheless, with care, they are intelligible, and operating the caliper seems straightforward, even to this novice user of calipers.

The photos in this review include measurement of a printed puzzle that was 20mm wide, and filament at 1.75mm. Both measured exactly as expected! The caliper comes in a sturdy case which I appreciate! A spare battery is also provided, which is a nice bonus!

Pros
- This does give a consistent inconsistent readout for me at least
- Was just accurate enough for me to get the job done
Cons
- It ultimately has inconsistencies in its measurements
- Sliding movement feels loose and toy-like; does not have a smooth sliding action.
The only reason that I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 is that at least the inconsistency in my caliper was consistent and the case with an extra battery were a nice touch. After some trial and error with things that I knew the measurements of, I discovered that mine would be off by -.07mm for about every 15mm that the slider was moved. Eg, moving it out 15mm then moving it back to zero, I'd consistently get a measurement of -.14mm. So with this knowledge, I made the measurements necessary for replacing a bottom bracket on my old Raleigh Technium and it fit perfectly.
However, it feels wrong that I have to ultimately still be guessing the correct measurement when the tool itself is made for the purpose of providing an exact measurement and taking the guesswork out of things...
I would not recommend this product and if you need high precision, look into the more expensive calipers. If you're okay with being 1-2mm off your measurements, then this caliper will get the job done.
If I was using it daily for wide varying measurements I might want something sturdier but for occasional use for hobbies and projects it's a great value. People take for granted living in a world where tools like this are the cost of about 1 hour's average wages and clicking a button. Also should use some common sense and keep it in the case, avoid doing things like ramming the slide back and forth too quickly or with the screw tightened down.
Here are the reasons:
1. It arrived with a dead battery. This could be excused of that were the only problem. But I'm sure the reason it was dead is because and slight movement to the device and the power comes on. It was designed this way. So by carrying it around in my tool box I can expect to need a new battery every time I use it.
2. Build quality is horrible. I think it's metal but it feels plastic.
3. This is actually part of the bad build quality. The thumb knob seems to grind on the side of the rule. That's because it's machined with two wheels that rare spaced just a pinch too far apart (a pinch is a measurement we refer to when we don't have decent calipers to measure!). Sometimes the wheels will ride on top of the rule and other times they straddle it and grind against the sides.
The whole purpose of digital calipers is to take a reasonably exact measurement. The design choices made by this manufacturer make this a no go for me.
But if you want to take inconsistent measurements with a dead battery and a rule that grinds on itself, you've found the calipers you need!
