About the Author

Bruce E. Shapiro teaches mathematics at California State University, Northridge, in the most challenging job he has ever had. For a while he collected degrees from various colleges, until his wife said uncle. In past lives he has been called a rocket scientist, a brain scientist, a computational scientist, a mathematical scientist, a data scientist and a generally annoying and snarky pain in the ass. None of those pursuits were particularly challenging. Now he spends his spare time eating chocolate chip cookies, playing with imaginary friends in the complex plane, and pontificating about the poor state of public education in California.
