This device is pretty well built. The construction is sturdy, I actually have the radio mounted to only this mount and not supported in the back (yet). For daily driving, it's solid with no issues. It took a month or so for the automatic door (push button) to loosen up a little. And the door's speed is tied to the temperature, the colder it is out, the slower the door wants to open. But it's not apposed to me helping it up when I'm inpatient, so we get along fine. :D ...There is a knack to closing the door though. There are guide pins (plastic) about half way down to keep the door in line. If you close the door with angular pressure, it catches on the pin and stops... The door needs to be closed vertically and it works like a champ. I wouldn't want to off-road with it though... it is only plastic after all. The smoked plastic door is plenty transparent to see the radio display while closed in day or night, yet dark enough that when the radio is off, it's hard to tell what make/model head unit is installed. Best of all, I think most 'would be' radio-jackers think this is some kind of locking unit as I still have my USB music drive plugged into the front of my head unit (expected it to be stolen already). The thin foam water resistant gasket is thin and flimsy, not filling/sealing the gap on anything other than perfectly flat surfaces. But this is easily fixed by cutting out a replacement gasket from suitable material (rubber, foam, silicon, etc). I will buy again, if the need arises.
Could have better mounting set up such as say a "U" bracket to pull the unit flush to the dash.
The unit does work as it was intended for and protects the stereo from the weather elements. I have not used it in pouring rain (just drizzle) and therefore can't state if it is water-resistant.
I would buy this and/or recommend this product again.
