What we have here is a wonderfully original idea, no regurgitated cliches to be found within, which you'd normally come to expect from any other run-of-the-mill romcoms. We're focused in on the suave/(extremely) handsome half-sex god half-manchild, Kyle Harrison, who's the main protagonist in the story, only to be rivaled in manliness by the italian stallion that is Lorenzo.
It follows Kyles lush movie career as it kicks off, and the journey he rides when he's catapulted into the centre of fame. With his ability to irritate and charm at the same time, Kyle will leave an impression right from the word 'go'.
Robertson Tait has proved himself to be a master in creating vivid imagery - some of the descriptions of the surroundings in Rome were absolutely spot on, and left me feeling like I could see it myself.
I take forever and a day to finish books, but every time i picked this back up, Robertson managed to drag me straight back into this world he's created, with the characters projected in a seemingly 3D manner, each with their own group of mannerisms + little quirks, leaving me actually irritated with some of the more "upmarket" (hoity-toity) characters, like that cow Barbra. Though she proved to be alright in the end.
The story is absolutely laden with a witty humour that left me laughing out loud, especially in a couple of situations where minor characters in the story get their karmic comeuppance.
All in all, this book was a fantastic read.
Getting a look behind the scenes of a movie production is delightful, and I love the care taken to create three-dimensional characters, even with the smallest roles. I felt immersed in this books world, and didn't want to leave it. Looking forward to the sequel.
Kyle is a great hero with a quick wit, and I loved the romance between him and Barbara. Lorenzo and Candice were equally engaging additions to the story. I hope there'll be a book two featuring the same group of characters. I loved the interaction and dynamic between them, especially the girls, their camaraderie, and Kyle always seemed so capable and effortless. This is a worthwhile read that's easy to get caught up in.
