This tape is extremely strong. I bought it to replace the duct tape that was failing me. I'm holding up everything from posters to lights and surge protectors. It never takes more than half an inch of this double-sided tape to hold anything up. I have a surge protector mounted underneath my bed with multiple adapters hanging from it, and this tape shows no sign of giving in to gravity. I don't know how easily the tape will come off yet, though I expect it would be pretty difficult given the strength. One special thing to note, this tape is CLEAN. Some tapes get really sticky and mucky, but this tape is smooth and clean all throughout application and reapplication. My experiences have been indoors, so no comment on how this holds up outdoors.

Awesome Stuff, this is! Pay the extra money up front to have a big roll of this in your toolbox! Its bond is far greater than the foam-type of double sided mounting tape made by (3M also), plus its more pliable, doesn't dry out, and it's soft so it will fill in and adhere to minor dimples or coarse surfaces. You can also remove it by rolling it off a surface with your thumb. As for value, in drug and hardware stores, you'll pay $3.00 or so for a short roll of the white foam product which will dry out over time. With this product, you get 37 feet for $20!

First of all, this is some of the strongest, best two-sided tape you're ever going to find. This is miles ahead of the foam scotch two-sided tape you'll find in staples. It's related to 3M's structural VHB tape.

I've used this all over my boat in areas I can't drill holes. It sticks fantastically well to fiberglass and plastic and is currently holding some engine control lines in the engine room, as well as the VHF radio to the roof of the cabin.

That said you have to use common sense when using this.

1) Forget the 5lb rating. It's a well meaning attempt by 3M to quantify the strength of the tape but it's basically meaningless. Surfaces, angles, amount of tape? None of these things are factored into this single number. So don't use it.
2) Consider the surface material. Tape isn't glue and it can't fill in gaps. Surfaces like concrete, sometimes wood aren't flat and the tape can't ooze into gaps. Thus the effective surface area is far less. Also, don't put it on things that are painted. If you want strong tape, which this is, the trade-off is that it can pull paint off the walls. That's not the tape's fault.
3) Apply the tape intelligently. If you're mounting a square object for example put the tape all the way out to the corners. This maximizes the leverage it has in holding the object to the surface.

This tape works very well in terms of both its holding power and its ability to adhere to irregular surfaces. I am using this material to hold up some woven fabric insulation as well as mount some plastic laminate to the underside of a workbench in the garage. It has only been two weeks, but there is no sign of separation or sag in either job. I am pleased overall with the product but I should warn you this tape has a very strong smell, very noticable even in a larger enclosed space. It isn't a particularly bad smell, just very noticable - almost as if they added fragrance to the tape in an attempt to mask a more typical adhesive smell. Hopefully it will fade over more time, but it is enough of an issue that I would not use any quantity of this tape in a living area.

I call this sticky tape stuff because when I started using it, I found it to be less a double-sided mounting tape and more like a thin sheet of sticky gum. This stuff stretches out to much longer and narrower or can be folded upon itself to be thicker. Sticky stuff.

Value:
This 450 inch roll is the much better value than the 60 inch roll on the site (4 cents per inch versus 10 cents per inch).

Does it work:
I haven't found any type of mounting or double sided tape that comes anywhere near this in sticking ability. I use this in my garage to mount some padded rubber surfaces (very light) to a cinder block wall to protect my car doors, through extreme heat and cold, the surface has stuck. I use this to mount a plastic device that attaches hoses to a window (for an in-room AC unit) which gets a significant amount of torque from the heavy hoses, absolutely no issue. So, yes, it works.

That's it... if you are a do-it-yourself'er, this is a must have for your tool kit.

In my local store I pay 3-4x the cost per foot compared to this MASSIVE roll.

I two way tape everything. A power strip to the top of my office desk. A power strip to the wall behind my desk. My battery charging station to the wall. My (super-light and flimsy) phone charging base to the top of my desk so it doesnt fall over when I dock a phone in it. My girlfriend hates this tape however. We learned the hard way that you need to kind of pull and twist when you want to un-mount objects from walls or it will rip all the paint and everything with it right off the wall resulting in a necessary patch job. As long as you are cautious about how you use this on painted surfaces you'll be fine.

I even used this to attach a replacement side mirror glass to the original plastic backing. Even if I wanted to I couldnt pull that mirror off today. Amazing stuff.
