Scotch Magic Tape
Frosty on the roll but invisible on paper, Scotch Magic Tape features the original matte-finish design for a strong hold and seamless look. This tape pulls off the roll and cuts smoothly, resisting splits and tears for a sturdy piece. Thanks to its gentle adhesive, you can stick then re-stick each piece as your project demands, then jot a helpful note with a pen or pencil on top when you're done.
Scotch Double-Sided Tape
Versatile and convenient, Scotch Double-Sided tape offers a mess-free alternative to glue sticks for those light-duty attaching and mounting tasks. Featuring a two-sided adhesive, this tape comes in both a permanent and removable style so you can match the proper tape to the task. As a bonus, this tape is photo-friendly so you can keep your memories securely attached and looking good.
Scotch MultiTask Tape
For those everyday jobs, Scotch MultiTask tape features a strong, moisture-resistant material ideal for a wide range of taping tasks. Thanks to its high-quality performance and unique design with crystal clarity, it's easy to subtly add a strip to a project for a professional look and a secure hold.

I received a small sample roll to review as part of the Amazon Vine program. I compared its adhesiveness and strength to conventional packing tape. Adhesion was comparable. But strength is iffy depending on the package. Because the tape tears so perfectly across its width (due to some molecular magic at 3M), if your package has any give to it, and is given a sharp punch/push where the cardboard flaps come together - for example the UPS person dropping another box on top of yours - the an across-the flap piece of tape just tears right open. Does not happen with conventional tape. Since this tear-by-hand tape is longitudinally strong, tape placed lengthwise along the seam should be fine.
For medium duty work, I think this tape is OK (although expensive), and is great for around kids, since you don't have to worry about them getting cut on anything.
UPDATE: I'm sorry to have to report a downside to this tape. I've discovered that over time, this tape will lift off of ordinary cardboard. I discovered this when getting a variety of boxes out of a storage unit. I had used this tape to tape up these boxes, and they had been in storage for a few months. I was very surprised to see that the tape had simply lifted off. This seriously limits its usefulness. I've continued to use it, but when packing boxes I make sure to wrap the tape all the way around the box and a ways back over itself, as it does seem to remain stuck to itself, whereas it will lift off when just stuck to cardboard. It's hard to go back to other kinds of packing tape because the "tear by hand" feature is so convenient. Unfortunately I have to downgrade it.
It's very hard to find and I just don't understand why this isn't a best seller in the tape department because it's strong and easy to handle (doesn't try and stick to itself as you are placing it on paper) and it's just so easy to use. The company needs to kick it's marketing department's butt for not doing its job and getting the product out there on all the shelves. Everyone I have spoken to about the tape (I told you I was a tape evangelist) have never heard of it... what a shame for the company!
My ask of sticky tapes is simple - hold brown corrugated paper boxes together, be easy to apply, easy to tear. The last of these is generally an issue with other packing tapes - you need a pair of scissors or a knife to cleanly cut the tape off. This tape, without any doubt, makes it very easy to hand-tear when you are done.
However, I also expect a sticky tape to actually stick. The material used here is much thicker than regular tapes, and if you don't stick it back onto itself (i.e. going all around the box), the edges start curling up and coming loose after a few days. I used this tape, for example, to stick some labels on to cleaning fluid spray bottles, and all of them have come off after a few months.
I went back to the basic Scotch disposable dispenser with packing tape - http://amzn.com/B003W0P2SA - and love it. The cutter right on the dispenser makes it easy to cut, I'd say even easier than hand-tearing the tape, and these simple tapes stick better.

This tape is great! I love not having to mess with the tape holder/cutter - which adds bulk and rarely functions. This tape really does "tear by hand."Published 4 months ago by Lydia Jane
This tear by hand tape is terrific - way easier to use than the kind that is used in dispensers. for some reason it is hard to find in stores so I was happy to order online.Published 4 months ago by Clare West
