Top customer reviews
The adhesive label for the product doesn't come off cleanly, either. I carefully tried to remove it but a portion of the label stuck to the cheap, flimsy plastic holder that threatens to come apart at any moment. I just left that stubborn adhesive part on rather than waste any more time trying to clean it off.
Finally, it took me a while to find the end of the tape so I could peel it off and start using it. As another reviewer mentioned, you would think that the place that is marked would be where you peel it and I spent some time trying to lift it up with no luck. Then I read the other review in which the person said the actual start of the tape is about an inch or so away from that. And lo and behold, there it was. I peeled it off and it didn't peel in one piece; it tore in several places in the middle. Finally I got the roll started.
The tape itself is of typical very good 3M quality but I have to say it is overpriced. The last packaging tape I purchased, also made by 3M, comes in a pack of 6 smaller rolls, each being 25 yards long, versus this product's total length of 54.6 yards. The width is identical, 1.88". At the current prices as of this writing, the pack of 6 totaling 150 yards costs 67% of what this one 54.6 yard roll costs. Granted, the 6 pack requires a dispenser as they don't come with a cheap flimsy plastic one like the product I am reviewing does. Also, the tape quality seems better with the 6 pack as it is slightly thicker and more robust.
I debated on whether to give this product one star or two but wound up giving it two because once you finally do get it started, the tape works well and is strong. But I still think it is overpriced.
Based on using it for shipping and my experience from multiple moving adventures, I believe that this tape would withstand heavy moving activity. I have also found that the boxes and packing balance also make a difference. So, if you use this tape with thrice-recycled boxes and pack 80 pounds of belongings in them....please think twice before blaming the tape. That is my disclaimer. Excellent tape but it will not perform packing/moving miracles.
The dispenser is fine, it's not as great as my gorilla dispenser but it's fine for the job and convenience of having a roll on it already. But my main issue is that the roll of tape is SO SMALL. It's not thick at all and I went through it super quick.
ONLY ideal for super hard to close boxes where you need the MUCH higher quality and expensive thick tape.
