Editorial Reviews

Review

"A fascinating account of the author's car journey with her two foreign-born sons from south-west England to central Scotland in the 1970s to visit the places she grew up in. The many photographs lend an added dimension to the narrative and both remind the reader of an earlier Britain; but this is no mere travelogue. Fay Knowles's rediscovery of the places and people she knew during her Scottish childhood is well described and supported with tales from her mother's family history. These take the reader back to the late 19th and mid-20th century. Like the author herself, many of her ancestors also left home for distant shores - proof indeed that Scotland has for long been a land of emigration." - Amazon U.K. customer
