As repairs go, replacing the bag is a very small thing, BUT we have had it one week! This is only the second time it has been used. If I have to replace a bag it would be better to get one for our old leaf vac (which is a Ryobi). It was/ is a good deal more powerful, and also smaller and lighter. I purchased this because they are no longer making bags which fit our old leaf vac, but if I can not find one I can probably make or repair thje old, or buy one of their new bags and swap out the attachment.
I feel badly about having Amazon pick up somethinmg so big and heavy, and ship it from Hawaii over a broken bag, but, again, this was after 1 week, vs. 10+ years on the Ryobi. I discussed it with my husband, and considered just replacing the bag, but then he opened the clean out to show me that the impeller, everything really, is plastic. (I did express concern about that last week, before I knew it was low grade plastic in and out). I ended my review by saying that I didn't know if the motor etc would hold out longer than the bag. It did, but the bag only lasted 1 week.

I spent the better part of the day using the Scott leaf vacuum yesterday. We have had a challenging summer, and have a lot of trees dropping leaves early. Our old leaf vacuum developed a hole in the bag which rendered it unusable (which is just crazy) and, apparently since that model is no longer made it can not be replaced. I bought this to replace it because blowing the leaves into a corner or onto the lawn was not a very good solution.
What I like best about the Scott vacuum is that it has wheels on the end of the nozzle, which means you do not have to carry it. You can push it, much like a vacuum cleaner. The only trouble is that the angle is less than ideal. The suction is not great. It is not as powerful as our old leaf vacuum, and is also larger and heavier. While it will vacuum leaves when wheeled, it does so slowly. It works much better tipped further, so that the nozzle is pointed almost straight down, while using the wheels provides a 15-20 degree angle to the ground. It did well with dry leaves, but the ones which were damp or which had been on the ground for a while took longer, more than one pass (unless pointed straight down). It also clogged a few times while I was working, but took just a minute to unclog by flipping the switch to blower for a few seconds. That also helped by drying the remaining leaves, a bit, but only a little bit. I live on the windward side of Oahu and we have more rain, higher humidity than almost anyplace on earth, so this should work better for most than it did for me. It does not do well with heavier damp leaves.
It does shred very well, finely, in fact more so than our old leaf vacuum. I filled a 50 gallon green waste bin with what would have filled 2 or 3 unshredded. Since the city gives us half what we need, and we have pickup every 2 weeks, we are always behind, have to maximize what we have. The fine shred does help. I added a couple of bags to our (rolling) composter. The fine shred means it ought to compost faster, and can be used as mulch as well.
I have only owned one other leaf vac. and can not remember the make/ model (but should find it and update, or comparisons are useless). I can say that the Scott is larger and heavier and that the suction is not as powerful. Since it is electric and not a LI portable that is surprising. I expected it to be at least as powerful as our old shredder, but it isn't.
The wheels do make it easier to move from place to place and can be used for some of the vacuuming, but to do a thorough job you will likely need to carry it some. It works better at a steeper angle than that provided when it is resting on the wheels.
It is not particularly well made. All the parts are plastic. When I needed to switch to blower and back to unclog, the handle was easy to move, but felt somewhat fragile, like it is not going to last for long. Our old leaf vac gave up the ghost because of a hole in the bag. I can see this falling apart/ failing for other reasons. It is one of the least well constructed pieces of equipment which we have and is a disappointment coming from Scott, a division of John Deere. We have a riding mower of theirs we have had for near 20 years which is now idle in our garage for want of a small part which is no longer made :( That is a very expensive piece of equipment to replace. This is not. However, I do not expect it to last 20 years, or anything close. It is just not as well made.
