From the Author

Hi!  I'm J.P. Osterman, the author of The Screaming Stone.  I remember spending countless hours sitting with my wonderful Irish grandparents, listening to their Irish myths and folktales.  My grandparents have passed on, but those wonderful ancient rich stories remain with me like the favorite cakes my grandma used to serve for dessert.  And my grandparents so much loved their Michigan roots.  Michican City, Indiana is where they married and had their two children.  My grandfather grew up in Three Oaks and managed to hold onto dear life some of his precious land his ancestors left him.  Some of their past life together has sifted into The Screaming Stone.  For example, in the novel, Marcy and Robbie are very close cousins.  I have a cousin who is almost as close to me as a brother.  My parents met at his parents' wedding.  My father and my cousin's mom are siblings, and my mother and my cousin's father are uncle and niece.  Wow, complicated huh?  But "complicated" is great fuel for a story.  And then, of course, I weave in the design of family secrets.  Everyone has 'em.  Yes, you too!  Shhh.  Don't say I told ya that!  In The Screaming Stone, the family's black sheep is Uncle Finn.  He's dark, quirky, and mysterious.  Marcy and Robbie are intrigued by him, have been told to avoid him, but at the same time are lured to him.  That's the beauty of a book: a writer can resolve mysteries, secrets, and complications in a work of fiction.  Thanks for considering The Screaming Stone!
