Product Description

Made from strong heat treated, hardened steel. Comes in black version or silver colored versions. Silver colored versions are nickel plated, and are made from heat treated, hardened steel. Thus, the silver version is of the 3.8mm & 4.5mm security bits are much stronger than the black version. The bits measure 5 cm (about 2 inches) in length and will fit any standard 1/4" screwdriver handle. The 3.8mm security bit opens games for Original Nintendo (NES), Super Nintendo (SNES), Nintendo 64 (N64), Virtual Boy, Original Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Sega Game Gear. The 4.5mm security bit allows you to open Sega Genesis, Sega Master System, and Sega 32X games. Additionally, the 4.5mm security bit allows you to open Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Game Cube, Virtual Boy, Game Gear, TurboGrafx 16, and TurboDuo systems (video game consoles). Opening those games and systems will allow you a greater ability to clean and restore functionality. Additionally, it'll allow you, when necessary, to access a game or system's battery in order to restore save game functionality.

These security bits open all Nintendo console games and systems to clean the crud out of them. The nickel plated bits are a lot beefier than the standard black ones, buy from Video Game Museum.

Do not use with a bit driver, just inserting and twisting with hands are just enough to open and close whatever's needed without stripping the bits.

Bought this specifically to open up old Genesis games. When i buy a retro game i like to open them up and give the contacts as well as the case a thorough cleaning before i start using it. However the tool for the genesis simply doesn't work as intended. When i try to use it it just barely grips the security screw. It will turn the screw, but it rounds it off in the process. Meaning you can only use it once per game and it will result in a ruined screws. i waited a while to post my review to be sure i wasn't just using it on some odd set of games, but alas no every single game i use it tries to strip the screws.

Very cheap tools, allowed me to fix my SNES games and fix the teeth on my old NES. If you know what you are doing you can use these to open SNES and NES cartridges...when a game wont hold a save there is a small battery you can remove with a soddering gun and replace for fixing a game that doesn't save files. Now the batteries in there last a long time and in most cases I am a Duracell guy but when it comes to watches, clocks, and other slow battery use devices...Energizer they seem to last longer at very low use.

I purchased this item when there was about 20 positives and 5 negative reviews written. I really wish I paid more mind to the negatives because this bit simply does not work. I attempted to use this bit on my NES cartridges and it was noticeably a tight fit. The bit never properly made contact with the screw and ended up scratching a decent chunk out of my game's plastic before I called it quits. I thought that maybe it was just the game so I've tried two other carts to no avail. I don't know if my bit is defective or if the product is just poorly designed, but if the seller let's me exchange if for another I'll be sure to comment with a follow-up on this review. In any event, I would highly discourage people from purchasing this as it has only proven to cause damage to my cartridges.

Update: The seller kingofgamesdvds was very helpful on offering me several return options. I wanted to keep my business with the company for being so helpful that I decided on a replacement. The seller sent me a replacement without waiting for me to send my defective bit back. What I discovered is: with a little bit of patience and elbow grease you can get it to work. The bit doesn't connect with the top of the screws that easily so you might have to angle your screwdriver and applying different levels of pressure to forcefully cause the two to make contact. At some point it'll give but not without scraping some plastic away from your cartridges as I mentioned in the previous review above. I read another reviewer saying he had to sand down the surface of his bit to make it fit perfectly so I think I'll end up doing that. In overall, the bit works okay at best. If I had to buy another bit to open up my NES cartridges I would look for a bit made by a different manufacturer. I highly support the seller, however.

If you have read my other reviews, you already know that I can be beyond specific and get carried away... I won't do either here, but I'll tell you why these tools are needed. I had a game that wouldn't play... I tried the Q-tip and alcohol and it still didn't work... I took apart the SNES game and cleaned further up on the connectors of the game and it worked perfect... If I didn't have the tool, the game would have been useless to me! If you know what this item is, and you think you may need this, chances are you do need these tools and Amazon has them at a great price!

You may need to grab the end with a pair of pliers to get the screw to start turning, but after the first half-turn or so you can just use your fingers. These are well-made and the exact right size (I got the silver ones from videogamemuseum).

These bits are awesome. They fit into the tight spaces of the original NES cartridge, and do not cause any sort of tearing or shearing of the plastic. They don't slip, nor have I had them strip a screw or be stripped by a screw. Fit into most any handles, so there's little difficulty finding a handle for these. I've got so many toolkits lying around that I had my pick of ratcheting, stationary, or LED-lit handles appropriate for whatever console/accessory/with I'm messing with.

If you're a serious collector, a restorer, a DIY fixer, or just plain old neurotic about your Nintendo products, you should buy these bits!

I was looking for bits to open my old school video games to clean them for my online business and these do the trick! Opens all my Nintendo NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, N64, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, etc. games. They won't work with Gameboy Advance games as you will need a tri-wing screwdriver. I also like that you attach a multi-bit screwdriver base to it to make it easier to use. Highly recommended! God bless!
