That being said, I loved the story. This was so creative that I kept thinking, " I love this metaphorical world...I want some of what LB's smoking!" Just kidding, but it was a thought!
The story starts out feeling a little like a C.S. Lewis, then it tumbles along into romance and begins to feel like other LB books. The theme is similar, but the storyline and imagery is all quite new
Kane is such an adorable secondary character, that he steals the show at times. Some of the other characters are not as developed, but then their story seems to end at this sequel so I can accept that. I was lost a bit over the antagonist and who or what it is. I picked up on the hints that were being dropped, like the puzzle pieces that Kane assembled, we are being spoon fed this enemy's identity. It works in a lot of ways and doesn't work (for me) in others.
This book is written very well grammatically, too. Minimal errors- found more in FSOG 😀.
I also love the metaphorical world that was created in this book- very sharp. Fictional character world and and author clashes with it, and the fight and internal wars within. Too cool.
Haha speaking of sexy hotness let me just say POE, I loved reading his POV, as he tried to figure out what in the blazes was happening. He made me laugh a lot, as well suck my breath in a wonder at how he was gonna get through this or that. I didn't have to wait long mind you, the author did a great job with the flow of the story. I also enjoyed the different POV's from the other characters, it added another layer to read (you know how you think to yourself sometimes, what am I doing I can't do this or this can't be happening!) you get to see what they were thinking and feeling.
Opinion about books are just that opinions, I loved this book for many reasons but the main reason I enjoyed it so much was the characters. They really did fascinate me. Poe with Kane was so darn sweet it. True mentorship and love happening there, it just goes to show that people really can change the lives of other with a little caring. Scribbler(the author of Poe) and Poe, lol they cracked me up and made my heart hurt for them at times, again showing what it can be like if you just take the chance.
Ok last thing and this made me growl a little bit. The end. I didn't want it to happen but as the first book in the trilogy I expected a little cliffy lol. It's a wonderful book and I would recommend it just about anyone, young ones excluded as parts get a little steamy. It's definitely not my preferred genre but it sucked me right in, and I'm waiting patiently for the next now.
The plot of this book was genius in my opinion. Charlotte is a very well known author (scribbler) whose hero, Jeremiah Poe, comes to life and knocks on her door. She created him to be her perfect man...a brawny, good looking, hero who has NO interest in romance. What happens to him when he and his vitally important little sidekick, Kane, comes to the realm of his scribbler and discovers he has human qualities that he does not understand?
There were parts in this book where I laughed out loud... when Poe discovered his...well, I'll leave that for you to read and enjoy for yourself!
What the Scribbler doesn't know is that Poe protects the provinces of the genres (horror, romance, paranormal etc). He comes to her world to save his world, Octava. However, there is someone, or something trying to stop them from saving it.
There were so many twists and turns and deep meaning behind the plot and behind each word and each character in this book...I would use the word majestic to describe it. The words towards the end of the book projected a crystal clear picture of a miraculous scene. I would love to see what it would look like in a movie...however, I still don't think it would be as beautiful in a movie than it was in words.
This is definitely a book that I would recommend and I can NOT wait until the 2nd book comes out!
