It seems to be the norm in some families to bicker over inheritance. Beth is blessed with a precious gift from her Gram and I loved the adventure the author took her on. Arriving on the island, she sees her dream of a food truck become a reality. I have always been intrigued by food trucks. I would be the first one in line everyday as Beth opened for business. The mouth watering food described gave me a sense of comfort. You can feel Gram’s influence as Beth cooks up menus that satisfy your taste buds.
It was so much fun to read about Scott and his past with Beth. I can remember my childhood boyfriend and how special he made me feel. Similar to Beth, my family was critical of me which left me doubting myself. Scott is a good person and finds himself starting to have those buried feelings for Beth again. One of the things I really liked about the story was how vulnerable the author made Beth. She unravels her fear of failing and slowly puts the pieces back together in an unforgettable story.
I loved the mystery in the story and how it brings Beth to a place where she knows she needs to have a closer relationship with God. Greed and the love of money can make people do uncharacteristic things that cause pain to others. Beth and Scott face several obstacles as they start to share their feelings for each other. The story is a great example of God’s love and finding out how strong you are in the face of danger. The story helped me to discover peace about where I am in life. Beth is a great example of overcoming low self esteem and believing that dreams can come true when you trust God.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Beth grew up cooking with her Gram, and the memories they made together have impacted Beth greatly. Woven throughout this story are descriptions of yummy food smells and the memories they elicit for Beth. From these memories, and the vision her Gram encourages her to pursue, she works to create the future she feels God wants for her. Though faced with some hardship, Beth finds herself in a position to finally work to bring her dream of owning and running a food truck into a reality. While working hard to make her business profitable, she is faced with some challenges and troubles, and ultimately must push herself to follow her dreams. I found the characters engaging, and the story of second chances, hard work, and finding our identity in Christ inspiring. One of my favorite aspects was how the author was able to make Gram an important character, even though she had passed away. Even though she wasn’t alive for the story, she felt like a critical piece and I enjoyed this component.
Yet, other memories of past failures or childhood traumas, scar us emotionally and mentally, maybe even spiritually. When is the time to let that part go and let God do His part? Beth has an opportunity to do just that.
I'm very committed to this series and all the authors participating. Anxiously awaiting the next installment.
I also liked the mysteries surrounding Beth living at the cottage and they kept me turning the pages. I am so excited that there is another book coming out next year in this series. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest reviewI really liked the characters in this story. There was Gram, who just died and wanted her granddaughter, Beth to have her independence. Gram was so full of wisdom and I really liked how her wisdom graced the pages of this story. Beth was a sweet character trying out her wings by moving from Michigan to South Carolina. She had an interesting relationship with her family. Her Gram left her a cottage on Merriweather Island and suggested she buy a food truck. How nice Gram and Beth got to share a joy of cooking and making new recipes.Scott, is an all around sweet guy who fell in love with Beth when they were kids and she would visit the island. He was the captain of the ferry that brought Beth to the island.
