This was a book about Liam's redemption back into the hunter society. Apparently a year has passed and I had to figure this out on my own. Once again there was no real time frame which made it harder to peg when the story actually happened.
Jev is a librarian in the stacks of the coven library. Besides her beauty and brains she's also a powerful enforcer. A witch with powerful spells she earns for more excitement then studying dusty tomes all day. Liam has already betrayed his family we learn to save his mother which is a very uncommon thing in the hunter community. You see hunters are just bred and the mothers go on with their lives and leave their children to be raised by their fathers. He's been trying to get back into the good graces of Conor, Brenna and everyone he wronged. He seeks out Jev for help in locating his friend Sam a djinn who's magic lamp is stolen. Together they set on a mythical journey on the streets of Philadelphia.
This book at times seemed to lag and scenes that went on for pages and pages could have been cut in half in my opinion. I'm all for letting the reader use their imagination. The sex scenes were better this time around and the chemistry between Jev and Liam was spicy. If you're looking for mythical beings and baddies galore then this is the book for you.
>This book is the second in the Philadelphia Coven Chronicles and ends in an HEA. Jev is a witch fighting for good in Philly. A sworn enemy, Liam, shows up asking her for help. Liam tells Jev he is no longer with the Order of the Serpent. He was forced into their service when they kidnapped his mom. Jev has a very prickly personality and always seems to be snarky toward Liam. Working together, an attraction forms as Jev sees the real Liam, selfless and self-sacrificing.
>The banter between Jev and Liam is funny in its cruelty at first. Soon their banter becomes sexually charged as their relationship heats up. There is a lot of action, fighting the head of the Order of the Serpent who seemingly cannot be beaten. All sorts of strange creatures come out to get Jev and Liam. The descriptions of the creatures are wonderful. All of the senses are used in describing them, especially smell. The treasure hunt to find Sam’s lamp kept the reader on the edge of the seat wondering what new creature would come out to attack.
>Liam is a perfect example of a flawed hero. He is selfless, yet is forced to do things he doesn’t want to. Jev is a confident, self-assured woman. Once she accepts her feelings for Liam, she doesn’t waver. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the story 4 hearts. The final conflict that ensnares Liam again is fairly predictable and should have been protected against as Liam and Jev attempt to out-think the bad guys. I am a reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock.
**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book.**
Liam doesn't have a lot of fans at the moment. When the safety of his mother was at stake, he had done some pretty shady things that led to some fairly deadly consequences. But when a friend needs his help, Liam knows he has to try to save him. Taking out a really bad guy in the process is a bonus.
Enter: a witch named Jev. Liam seeks out the one person he thinks might be willing to assist him and is surprised when she actually agrees. Sure, she may despise him. But he needs her quick wit and her magical abilities, not her approval.
However, the mission isn't an easy one. Evil creatures lurk at every turn and soon our pair is sent on a treasure hunt to find pieces of a missing genie lamp in order to save Liam's friend. Hordes of pixies, feral beasts, and a ruthless enemy stand in their way. It's one paranormal battle after another.
This is the second book of the series and another great read! I think I might have liked this one just a little bit more and only because the snarky banter between our couple was highly entertaining. The romance was pretty hot, too. I was caught off guard by some surprise kisses that made me smile. Liam and Jev were a good pairing of two headstrong characters with soft hearts.
The paranormal world was even more vast in this book with the addition of some new supernatural beings. There were a couple of repeat offenders, too, like the pixies. But even if I hadn't read the first book, I doubt I would have had trouble following along as the world-building isn't really all that complicated and the author does a good job of keeping us up to speed.
I found the first book to be on the wordy side and this one was, too. It's just this author's style of writing and it didn't bother me much this time around. It mostly occurred during the action scenes, in which every detail was meticulously described. But some action scenes were longer and some shorter. There was a decent balance this time around.
There were tiny clues dropped that hint toward the next pairing for the third book. I am all for this coupling and eager to read it! 4.5 suns!

Liam and Jev lit my world on FIRE!!! Liam was the perfect combination of dangerous alpha with a sweet underneath that Jev pulled to the surface. Jev was a powerhouse that took his world and shook it all up. The banter, the tension, and the constant angst from all sides made this an exhilarating read!! I was glued from the minute I started and couldn't put it down, a truly mind-blowing read full of hot, sexy, PNR goodness that you have to experience yourself. My absolute favorite couple of the series....so far!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!
