I was in one of the first company's to go to the new barracks buildings. When i got there thy were still using the old wooden ones. September 1963 through December and i have fond memories of those times. The Guard was under the department of the treasury when i went in so my uniform sleeve still has the Treasury shield on it. It later became the DOT but now it's Homeland Security. I'm proud to have served under the Treasury department.
I also was stationed at a Lifeboat station and spent a time on a light house as well. Went back to the LBS however and made Boatswain's mate.
Great story and well told. I recommend that if you were in the guard you should read this book.
