The dialogues are great, the details are incredible. The stories aren't as like everything you read before.
This one is short but I found the story so fascinating and really want more of this kind.
The story of Jeannette in nursing school is so interesting. I loved all the details.
I am a fan of historical romance but never read about nursing school from the 19th century and it is so exciting.
This is a must read, especially if like me you loved Philip and Jeannette story.
What a wonderful job and incredible writer.
Can't wait to read book 2.
One aspect I enjoyed about this story is the promise of new relationships. There are friendships that are just beginning to form, and new adversaries to face. We are also introduced to the mentor-protege dynamic. While this is not a romance, we are still reminded of the love that Jeanette has left behind and to which she longs to return. I was left feeling a silent promise - a potential for growth, conflict, and self-realization in the stories yet to be written.
While this story is short it has an easy flow and hopeful, positive voice that I found very pleasing.
I picked this novella up for a quick helping of historical fiction, and I enjoyed the story, appreciating how it depicts some of the harsh realities of the medical field. I found the heroine to be on the mousy side, but her fascination with medicine is clear.
I don't think the book's blurb most accurately represents the story, as the blurb seems to suggest more of a romance than this story is. I didn't get the best sense of a central, building conflict in the plot, so the climax felt much like an add-on to Jeanette's inward journey instead of a key place she'd been trying to reach all along. I also think some vague areas of the backstory kept the connected climax from being as powerful as it might have been.
Still, the book succeeds in whetting the appetite for the series, and as this HistFic fan found the read interesting overall, I wouldn't at all mind reading more from this author.
A short historical novella to introduce a new series (Nurses in New York). Although this story was short it was very interesting with many characters. Jeanette and the Doctor is a spin off from the 'Kansas Crossroads' series by the author Amelia C. Adams.
I had no problem identifying with each character, time period, location or plot. The author described everything with intense detail. The story has a strong direct plot, fast paced, some surprises; and entertaining with the young girls in the nursing school getting to know each other and their instructors. Many of the girls had never left their families before, an exciting experience for the them.
The author has already written four (4) books in this series, they all are short, fast reads but interesting and fun. This is my first time to read about nurse training in New York during this 19th century. I enjoyed the story.
