While enroute from Ireland to England by sea, the sisters’ ship is attacked by pirates, overtaken, and the two are captured as hostages to a group of mercenary pirates. The second in charge, a pirate who goes only by the name “Lucifer” has them kept in a gilded tower room in the pirates’ island castle until he can decide what it is he wishes to do with these two women. Should he ransom them back to their father or the English lord. Maybe he could sell them off as slaves or give them as prizes to his fellow pirates.
But as Lucifer begins to consider the options, he is spending time with Ginni. She is more than just a pretty woman, she makes him feel things. This is where the story begins to drag the reader in- the two are falling for each other but neither knows of the danger lurking nearby. The plot becomes twisted with intrigue and action and Lucifer must decide how he wishes to go forward.
This is a terrific story! It has an enthralling plot, several colorful characters beyond the two main characters, and lots of action too!
It’s the third in this series of pirate romances and it’s serious fun. I highly recommend it to romance readers as these pirates are just too much fun!
Genevieve Efford and her sister Vivi had been rescued from a ship after Lucifer had attacked it. She had been on the way to be married off after her father gave her up to pay for his gambling debt. Lucifer had it in mind to sell the sisters. They had been kept in a beautiful room at Perran Castle until Lucifer could deal with them. When he went to see about the ladies, he found out Genevieve was no ordinary lady, she was a spitfire!
Curtiz, one of Lucifer's crew members, was a snake in the grass. He felt no loyalty to the pirates and made a bargain with the Spanish to bring Genevieve to them. Then all hell broke loose!
I enjoyed the spirit of the h and how she wasn't afraid to speak her mind. The secondary character's added to this story too.
We have wit and humor along with tension, suspense and the romance built slowly that it surprised both our H/h. No lovemaking, but some foreplay prior to marriage. I usually enjoy some spice in my stories, but didn't miss it.
We do get HEA, no cliffhanger, but the story about our H and what happens if/when he goes home was unanswered. As the author has stated these are stand alone, but I did enjoy book 1 a lot. (ljb)
An epilogue could have enhanced the reading experience tremendously. With Lucifers new appreciation for his title and family, and the fact that he was laying "Lucifer" to rest, how did his return to the fold go? What went through his families mind on the return of prodigal son after 10 years?
What was Geni and Vivi's dreadful father's reaction? What was Geni's betrothed course of action?
I was invested in Lucifer's storyline and left afloat.
It was a good read despite my opinion that the ending lacked substance.
